Default Movie: An Inconvenient Truth

As a reactionary liberal (I'm politically more motivated by a
loathing of conservative values than any heart-felt kinship with
democrats) I've never been a big fan of the pompous
and wooden Al Gore.

But An Inconvenient Truth is, I think, an
unprecedented political event. His assertions are so
strong and so well documented, about a topic so
important (trumps national defense, for instance)
I think this issue (and his movie) has to be taken seriously,
and his assertions have to addressed on their merits,
outside any political context.

Perhaps global warming is a bogus issue. But if you think
that to be true, you've got your work cut out for you.
The arguments are too well presented here to be easily
dismissed.

If you don't think global warming is a bogus issue,
you have a lot to worry about. Rapidly melting
polar ice caps make Osama Bin Laden look
like a pain-in-the-ass ankle biter.

While I"m willing to believe in global warming, I was equally willing
to believe, a few decades ago, in the next ice age being in the wings
and starting up. That, also, was being attributed to the interference
of humans by many climatology experts.

I do believe that we're contributing a heck of a lot of pollution, but
most of the experts have tucked away statements to the effect that
it's hurrying along the warming trend that would be happening without
the existence of any humans at all. They vary on how much it's being
hurried by human activity.

If you find an expert who doesn't put that statement in his work
somewhere, I'd suggest you examine him / her closely for possible
intellectual dishonesty.

Your last statement is quite correct. Want to bet those living on
coastlines won't do anything until the buildings they live and work in
flood out?

Bjorn Lomborg is the crackpot who was found to be scientifically
dishonest by his peers but sort of semi-exonerated because, well
he's not really a scientist and he's too stupid to know better.

WOW, I decide to clean out the filters and right away and see is some
sanity has resumed and Forty hits as the guy who knows everything and
everything is an absolute. Might do a bit of research on what's happened
with this guy and many others who understand that you can't spend our
way out of the environmental issues. and spend more than 30 seconds on
Wikipedia to get your answers.

Back on the list you useless POS.

It's the same old Uber Colonel Epps. The poor Uber Colonel goes
all ballistic in the face of Inconvenient Truth.

LOL !!

And just a head's up there Uber Colonel, you probably don't want
to trust the so-called science from political scientists.

I don't know if it's bogus or not (I lean toward not), but it sure as hell
ain't the killer issue that Gore can ride to candidacy on.

I think global warming IS a bogus issue.

Yes, of course it is. Oh, sure, you can kiss New York, Los Angeles,
Philidelphia, Boston, Rome, Sydney, Melbourne, London and Washington
goodbye as they head out to take up permanent residence on the
continental shelves, but hey, Moscow, Peking (yeah, I know, but I still
like the duck), Riyadh, New Delhi and Bogota should be just fine.

However I believe global climatic change is real

Ah! So, you're a proponent of the global cooling scenario, eh? Well,
it's not a popular school of thought just now, but hang in
there.......your day will come.

and it is smart to understand what part of it is
man caused, what we can do about it and at what cost and not go off and
spend a whole lot of money to do damn little

Hm.....if the money will accomplish damned little, doesn't that
presuppose that you already understand the problems well enough? I
mean, how else can one know how much can or cannot be done.......right?

when that money could
instead be used to provide clean water or plant trees or fix clean air
problems.

Good point. Unfortunately, it's probably inevitable that someone will
come along and suggest (however absurd you and I may realize it is)
that clean air and **** like that leads us right back to that bogus
"global warming" thingy. See the problem?

I'm a big fan of the think local idea.

Refresh my memory.....who was it you used to fly for? Was it the Anne
Arundel Army?......the North Point Navy? Anyway, by "local" I assume
you mean to include anything within reasonable commuting distance,
like.......oh.......say, Iraq?....Afghanistan?.....the
Balkans?.....Granada?.....Vietnam?.....places like that......right?

I'm also a big fan of Bjorn Lomborg

Never heard of him. Doesn't matter. He's an idiot.

mostly because he tries to show that there cost to all
this

Nah.......abject nonsense.

and we need to be smart

O.k., we're ****in' doomed.

and change what we can and learn to live
with what we can't change.

God grant me the wisd.......um.......well, you know.

Wolfgang
you lie awake nights.....trying to imagine what it must be like to
believe the **** you write......right? well......that ain't my
problem, is it?
