I am a young woman (20) who is very keen in learning how to fly fish.
I will soon be moving up to Dunkeld, Perthshire and want to take advantage of the Tay's reputation for great fishing. As I've been looking around it seems there are few women, much less quite young women, who are interested in the sport. What are the reactions I'm likely to get from anglers as I look for advice? Is it quite a welcoming, friendly affair? What would you think of a youngster fishing on the same beat as you? Just curious to hear some opinions. |

If you join a club or local group you will find the passes and advances to be more refined and polite. It is also a way to meet new friends and pick up advice. Most clubs will let you visit a meeting or two before joining and you will be able to see if there are any other ladies in attendance. john |

When you get there you will find out whether you need to remind them of the Queen Mother's keenness on salmon fishing, the place of Georgina Ballantine in the record books etc. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

I live in Central Scotland but have only fished the Tay a few times. The forum below is full of anglers who prefer the more wild type of fishing rather than stocked fisheries and you may get more information there. We have a couple of lady posters so don't be put off and it is mostly about scottish fishing. Have a look in and see what you think. http://www.wild-fishing-scotland.co....ba392bc188cd04 -- Don`t Worry, Be Happy Sandy -- E-Mail:- Website:- http://www.ftscotland.co.uk Looking for a webhost? I'm an American and found the male fishers (fly and spin) very kindly. Of course I'm old, but I'm not at all sure that makes much difference. You may feel as if you're being talked down to a bit at first, but as a beginner, that happens regardless of age or gender. -- r.bc: vixen Speaker to squirrels, willow watcher, etc..
