But it's more fun to say: " Walla Walla Washington"

Think Bugs Bunny...

I think the 3 stooges had a skit, too...

Go ahead, let it roll off of your tongue.... "Walla Walla Washington".

You have to say it quickly, for it to work.

Deck us all with Boston Charley,
Walla Walla, Wash an' Kalamazoo!
Nora's freezin' on the trolley,
Swaller dollar cauliflower alley-garoo!

Don't we know archaic barrel,
Lullaby Lilla Boy, Louisville Lou?
Trolley Molly don't love Harold,
Boola Boola Pensacola hullabaloo!

Bark us all bow-wows of folly,
Polly wolly cracker 'n' too-da-loo!
Donkey Bonny brays a carol,
Antelope Cantaloupe, 'lope with you!

Hunky Dory's pop is lolly gaggin' on the wagon,
Willy, folly go through!
Chollie's collie barks at Barrow,
Harum Scarum five alarm bung-a-loo!

Dunk us all in bowls of barley,
Hinky dinky dink an' polly voo!
Chilly Filly's name is Chollie,
Chollie Filly's jolly chilly view halloo!

Bark us all bow-wows of folly,
Double-bubble, toyland trouble! Woof, woof, woof!
Tizzy seas on melon collie!
Dibble-dabble, scribble-scrabble! Goof, goof, goof!
-Walt Kelly

I am impressed. I don't remember more than the first two or three
verses. :-)

Good God, man, you don't actually think I REMEMBER all that, do you?
Had to look it up.....found several minor variations. My memory of
it......um......well, let's just say that my memory ain't exactly
xerographic.

However, I do remember reading it when it was first published in the
Pogo strip sometime back in the fifties. Cracked me up. I was, of
course, too young to fully appreciate something as nuanced as Pogo, but
it cracked me up nevertheless. Still does.

Some years ago I dated a woman whose father was not at all sure that he
approved of me......till I gave him a copy of a compilation of Pogo
excerpts for his birthday one year. We became fast friends.

I suppose it would be silly to ask whether you're familiar with Edward
Lear's work, huh?

Er, no ... of course not. Anyone who remembered that sort of stuff
would be .. er ... well ... nevermind.

I was introduced to it when I was 9 or 10 years old, and thought it
was hilarious. Only years later did I come to realize how *truly*
funny it was and probably still is). :-)

Besides The Owl and the Pussycat, no. :-)
