Fall river?

I'm planning to get a couple of days in Bend and might get a chance to
fish the Fall River. I've fished the upper parts a couple of times, from
it's origin to the bridge at Rt#4360/W.River Rd. with limited success,
mostly small fish. Is the lower section, below the falls, a better bet?

I missed this first time around. A few years ago there was a total fish
kill downstream of the hatchery when a load of fire retardant was
accidentally dropped in the river. It's coming back well, though. You
won't yet find browns as big as they were before the accident, but there
is pretty good fishing down there nevertheless. If you've never fished
that stretch before, it's certainly worth trying. I'll probably be
there one day next week, but I don't know which day yet.

I spent an afternoon on the fall last week. Mostly little fingerlings.
I had much better luck on the way-upper Deschutes (just below Little
Lava Lake).

I really like that stretch. Have fished it a lot this summer. Sorry we
didn't have a chance to fish together. Hope you managed to find some of
the better brookie holes.....

I had a BIG brookie come up out of one hole, but he missed my fly. I
stood there for several hours trying to entice him back up with no luck.
I think they need to issue reading glasses to some of those fish, I had
a redside jump clean over my fly. He missed it on the way up and down,
didn't even touch it. Those redsides are absolutely gorgeous fish.
