FWIW, in my experience, its meaning isn't as overtly explicit as you
seem to think. Actually, in my experience it's used for "bite my ass",
which really isn't an invitation. When you tell someone to kiss your
ass, do you really want him/her to plant a wet one there? :-)

One can only wonder what sort of histrionic tizzy davie would go off into on
hearing someone say of something.....in public.....that "it sucks."
