Many of the people who used to post to uk.rec.fishing.* have floated away
to web-based forums like Angler's Net[0]. It's partly something that's
happening to the whole of Usenet, partly a reflection of the vulnerability
of unmoderated forums to sabotage.

No it is not dead just we are all sleeping. Web forums have however taken
over sadly me thinks.
