At least one was getting better with it and decided to go for surgery instead because he was so mind rotted by the routine. ![]() "JR" wrote in message ... A while ago I was diagnosed with rotator cuff tendinitis in my left shoulder. This is actually somewhat on-topic. Although it doesn't affect my trout fishing, because I cast with my right arm, it's put a real crimp in my steelheading. Hauling hurts and I'm not sure it's good for the healing process. Haven't been out for steelhead for almost a month now. It was suggested that I do physical therapy, that it would help speed healing, but I have had unsatisfactory experiences with PT (for other problems). Lots of money spent with little apparent benefit. I have even been known to refer to the "physical therapy racket..." ![]() Now, I've got health insurance, but with a large deductible and large co-pays, I could conceivably spend a bundle out of pocket, and I'm leery of the whole thing. At first, I was going to just try to let it heal on its own, although I know that can take some time, but even after giving up on steelheading the pain is getting worse, especially at night. So, my question is, has anyone here done PT for rotator cuff tendinitis? Did it do any good, or should I just tough it out until it heals on its own? Alternatively, if I go steelheading in BC next week, and, uh, injure my shoulder, could I get some of that National Health Care PT up there do you think....? ![]() - JR I went through twelve weeks of PT two times a week after left rotator cuff repair....it was tore all to hell and gone. I followed directions, they told me what to do at home and what not to do. I like to think I am flexible for my age (55 and call still put my hands flat on the ground without bending my knees) and I worked hard at the therapy and found it worthwhile. You need to stick with the same therapist 'cause he knows your progress and is taking you through things step by step. Most surgeons have a clinic they recommend and it is a good topic for discussion with your doctor prior to surgery. I'll be following the same procedure when I get the right shoulder done next year. john |

Day after tomorrow I go in for surgery and I'm sure there will be PT in my future as well as lotsa pain pills (I hope) Doc sez he will also have to clean out all that cortisone he's been shooting in there. I didn't know that stuff hung around that long. Now I'm thinking about all the stuff I have to do with only one arm...taking a crap leads the list with "how do I do that?" No jokes, but a personal observation - IMO, "cortisone" and lidocaine shots are bad juju unless they are for short-term, onesy-twosy-type relief until a real fix, either through surgery or rehab, can be done. The good thing is that they kill the pain...and that's among the very bad things, too... ....well, OK, one sorta-joke: Um, Frank, "take a crap" doesn't mean to actually _take_ a crap....what the hell are you doing using ANY hands to _take_ a crap? Heck, why do you need two hands for the, er, paperwork? Just hold the catalog in your teeth and rip out the pages... TC, R |
