![]() Frank Reid skrev: We spend a lot of time outdoors. Considering how much time we spend standing in the river, well at least some of us actually STAND in the river ;-) , it is a good idea to have a hat on. What, with all that reflection one's asking for trouble without a hat. Bought an Australian Akubra many years ago and been wearing one ever since (whilst fishing that is). Got my second one this summer, they're great. I hope you recover quickly and follow your own advice on the hat. /Roger |

Right now, I'm on something called Efudex. Been smearing this cream on for 5 days and I look like a zombie outta the night of the living dead. My face is covered with red blotches that will turn into sores. It feels like its been hit by a cheese grater. Face is swollen like a rotting corpse. I'll be on pain killers soon. I've got at least 2 and 1/2 more weeks on the stuff, could be as much as 4 and 1/2. Hopefully, it will get all of the cancerous and pre-cancerous cells. Hopefully. Wear a broad brimmed hat, SPF 300 cream (multi spectral), sun gloves, long sleeved shirts. Get checked by your dermatologist annually. Be mindful when you go outside before your only view of outside is through a hospital window. Frank Reid Best of luck going forward Frank... A good friend of mine that lives on the lake went through this same treatment late spring of this year... He came out of it okay. It looked extremely painful, hang in there! Take care, JT |

I've had a Tilley T3 for many years now but the color Tilley calls "natural" is actually white and the last thing I want to wear while trying to be stealthy is a white hat, so I use it only while paddling or fishing from the canoe, never while stream fishing. On the stream I wear a baseball cap. Or rather I used to wear a baseball cap. Frank's post has generated two Tilley hat orders, mine is the TH4 Hemp in Mocha. I wonder if Tilley will pay Frank a commission ? ;-) -- Ken Fortenberry |

Best of luck going forward Frank... A good friend of mine that lives on the
lake went through this same treatment late spring of this year... He came out of it okay. It looked extremely painful, hang in there! Well, I can say without reservation that it is painful. Nice sheets and pillow cases feel like 60 grit sandpaper. You roll over in your sleep and wake up. Not getting much sleep. The only thing that you want touching your face is lukewarm water. The blotches are now progressing to the open wound stage. I am not supposed to go outside without sunblock and a broad-brimmed hat. This goes for driving too. I'll give all the gross details as a warning. I know, it wasn't just my fly fishing that caused this. I grew up on the California beaches, so have been out in the bright sun unprotected for years. I'm also fair skinned. If getting a warning now saves one person from this misery, then its worth it. Then again, I can now audition for a part in some of my daughter's favorite scary movies. I do this on my wide brim hats, then just spin the hat around when I need to use the mag-eyes... /daytripper |
