Default I say crop-ee, you say crap-ee, let's call the whole thing sac-au-lait

Part of the phonetic spelling didn't survive.... it didn't start out as
"krp," but had some more special characters.

Lord help us if we get into how words are pronounced and used all over the
U.S..Lots of fun exchanging culture though..We say "YALL" here in Alabama
and I believe our Northern Folk say "you guys"...Is that true?
Either way Crappie are biting and ill be going tomorrow to catch a plate
full so by tomorrow evening Ill be biting...
CROP-pee..CRAP-pee, white, black, whatever color they happen to be, its the
best tasting fish in freshwater to me!

Crappie and bluegill (bream to you), are both good but the
best tasting freshwater fish to me is the walleye.

I have heard Walleye are good, but I associate them with similar toothy
fish that we have like the gar and grinnel, both have too many small
bones in them to even think about finding out how they taste.

Do Walleye have lots of bones? What is the limit per day? I think my
friend that just went to Minnesota said it was 3, but you could only
have maybe 6 in your possession. So he spent a week fishing and could
only keep 6 fish for his trip back to Mississippi when locals could put
42 in the freezer for the same length of time fishing. I guess that is
why they don't call Minnesota the 'Hospitality State.' lol

Flathead catfish are probably the best fish eating opportunity around
here. You can clean one fish and feed many people. Unlike their
cousins blue and channel, they don't get too big to eat, 40 to 60 #'s
is not uncommon, and they feed on live stuff and have meat that is as
white as a chicken breast.

I like Crappie because they are easy to clean and cook, but they really
don't have a whole lot of flavor like a bream does. I really would
rather eat bream any day, but they are just not as easy to clean and
cook.

I will have to find a Walleye source and give it a try. I would ask my
neighbor for a sample, but he has about $100 an ounce invested in his.

JS, I had a chance to fish lake Erie while working in Ohio this summer and
we chartered out a boat for a Sunday and had a good day. They said our limit
was 6 per person, on that charter anyway, and we caught 14. We bought a
cooker and cooked them in the parking lot of the motel on the tail gate of
the truck.(Yes, they knew we were from Alabama!) I must admit they were very
good. I had a chance to eat what I call "perch" as well...The green fish
with a kind of beige stripe on it. I liked them as good as I do Crappie.

You are right on the catfish as well....A good filet of "BlueCat" is awesome
after you bleed him. I've never had an opportunity to fish there but one day
I hope to.
You ever run any lines or jugs?

Hey, BTW, I went to a bait shop we have in Birmingham yesterday afternoon
and had a chance to see the Paca- Craw. The shop that I went to said they
sell about 600 bags a week!!! I know that's hard to believe but see the
link;
http://www.marksoutdoors.com/hawards2.html

I bought a few packs so he could meet that 600 bag quota this week..They
talk about how "Key Lime Pie" is the good color here. I'm not sure. I always
like Green Pumpkin and Pumpkin Seed. Ill keep you posted.

I didn't go out today yet because the mercury hit 58 this morning so were
freezing here. I read on MSNBC Buffalo got slammed last night and they have
155,000 without power. Amazing.

Jeez, I am not going out today because we have 35 degrees and 30 mph winds.
I can't wait until it warms up to 50 tomorrow so I can get out.

Blue cat are scavengers and eat dead things off the bottom. They are
good eating but tend to be better under 4 #'s. Flatheads aka Tabby
cat, spotted cat, eat live prey and seem to be the same taste no matter
the size. I have run lines and chased jugs, but they don't allow them
on our lake. You would use them primarily for blue cat. We catch more
flatheads on rods and reels below the damn of the Ross Barnett Resivoir
here using bream. The bigger bream the bigger flathead.

I tell you, it is a really hot bait. I haven't seen the lime green,
but the you can't fine the ALABAMA CRAW here. It is a natural crawfish
color.

I didn't go out yesterday either. A little nippley.

LOL, at 58, I'm still wearing shorts and sandals. As I type this, it has
"warmed up" to 33 degrees and I'm looking out the office window to snow
falling, with 3 inches already on the ground.
