Default Value of Fly Rod ?

Someone I know is trying to sell me a fly rod:

Leon Chandler
Custom Graphite By Courtland 2 piece #6
USA Made
It has a number on it: G-204 9'

It has a soft cloth container.

Can anyone give me an idea of what its worth?

I told him that I've been thinking of a Sage like the one someone suggested
a while back for $199
http://www.flyfishusa.com/rods/sage/...htm#four-piece

Is 4 pieces better than 2?

Thanks,
Bob B.

Bob,

Sorry, I am not qualified to give a judgement on the value of the Cortland.
As far as a 4 piece rod being better than a 2 piece, I asked that question
of a lot of people before making a decision on what rods to buy. The answer
I repeatedly got was that it was personal preference. Obviously a 4 pc would
be better for those that hike and pack thier gear into remote places. I
typically don't, so I chose 2 pc. rods. Different manufacturers could be
different. Check my post from 10-4 (What do you use?), most everyone here
commented on what they prefer to use (and why). You might find some of their
info. helpful.

best of Luck,
Jeremy Moe

$25. Go to a fly shop and test cast a tfo 9 foot 2 piece 6 weight
profesional for $89, with a lifetime warranty, then see how it compares
to your friends. If you actually like your friends better, wait, let me
rephrase that, if you *ACTUALLY LIKE YOUR FRIENDS BETTER*, offer $50.

Here's a new 8ft G-202 version that closed on ebay last month
w/o getting any bids. A new 9ft rod would cost about the same,
or maybe an extra $10.

Wow! Am I ever glad I have this resource to ask
questions to. I could have easily paid way more
than what this rod is really worth. This guy was
thinking it was worth something like $250-300+

Thanks for all of the replies!

$50?

If you buy a new fly rod it will most likely have a lifetime warranty.

I've never owned a Cortland rod, but coincidently, just this Saturday I had a
discussion with a fellow who had just broken his Cortland fly rod for the
fourth time.

Bill Kiene's point is well taken, however replacement isn't instantaneous, and
this guy had been without a whole rod almost as much as he'd been with it,
while the replacement gears turned...

Only if it was *originally* a 4 piece...
