Despite the VP's role in ties, I'm not sure that that's as important as the agreements in place to divvy up Committee Chairs. Plus, 51-50, would mean that the GOP took a drubbing today, would mean that there may well be a few savvy Republican Senators who wouldn't want to commit political suicide by rubber-stamping the Executive Branch.
