No - nothing to do with politics :-)
Spend the best part of the day fishing upstream of the secret spot, as the weather dude promised a banner day. He was spot on, it was a gorgeous day. Nice high sky made it easy to spot the cruiser-class rainbows - and especially to pick out the bows and browns from the spawning brookies, which were every friggin' where, getting underfoot, bumping my shins. Nuisance animals ;-) Best fish was the first one. I watched this dude for almost a half hour as he kept lah-dee-dahing around and wouldn't settle long enough to spot a decent drift at him. Even made conversation with a passing fisherman, consoling him about being skunked to that point, while keeping an eye on the fish. Finally mr trout found a comfortable spot to hang out and watch the world drift by, so I bowled him a small flashback pt nymph - which he took on the first try. That was pretty cool, if a bad omen, but it brought in 19" of thick rainbow, colored up nicely. Guy I was speaking with took a shot, if he can remember my email addy I'll post it. Spent the whole day above the rt 9 bridge as Cady Lane looked packed. Mostly it was avoiding the brookies to get to the others, and I caught a nice brown and another bow before calling it an afternoon at dusk and joining the mad dash already in progress on the turnpike. Don't know how many days we'll get like this one before the snow falls... /daytripper |

I got a weekend coming, but my home river has risen what looks like 6 feet in the last 2 days, and the rivers I would normally fish this time of year are all up in the Wall-mart parking lot.... |

Don't know how many days we'll get like this one before the snow falls... It was a great day. I just came in from reclining outside where I thoroughly enjoyed an Ashton Cabinet Pyramid and a glass of Merlot. This after printing and reading Wolfgang's "speckled trout" post - very nice indeed. I don't think I've just watched and appreciated the clear night sky any more in my life. Interesting I came back in to read this after just thinking there won't be many more of these nights this year. You were smart to get out today, and I'm glad to hear you did well. -- TL, Tim --------------------------- http://css.sbcma.com/timj/ |

It was a beautiful afternoon, like today, and turned out to be my last trip of season, as it snowed a few days later, and the weather continued ugly. I had hoped to get out a while tomorrow, but it turns out I'll be stuck in a sales meeting. I'll be out Saturday, along with the crowd, hoping it's not the last time this year. |

If the weather holds at all, I'll see about getting out there with you. It's been a weird season, to say the least. Normally by now we would have at least fished together a few times. What with work being especially insane this year and high water for a good part of the year, that didn't happen. Oh well - we're in Red Sox territory and there's always next year. ![]() -- TL, Tim --------------------------- http://css.sbcma.com/timj/ |

With luck everyone else will be home raking leaves :-) On the way out to the river every stream I saw was at high tide. The Stillwater was way high, and the Quinni was unapproachably out of its banks. So I expected the Quabbin would be over the flashboards. But no, the only water in the river was from the bubbler, piddling along at around 60 cfs, and so the river was as low as it gets. Aside from a few random rises, there was nothing bringing the fish to the surface, and I was there through the warmest part of the day to dusk. All three fish I caught were on the same #16 flashback pt nymph. Best one was just below the most upstream wingdam... /daytripper |
