Your not rigging your drop shot properly, there is no "Hook" line
(leader), the hook is tied straight to the main line

In some areas a traditional dropshot rig is considered an illegal snagging
rig. It has been written up in some magazines with a drop leader. I am not
sure how effective it would be, but certainly more so than having your gear
confiscated. LOL.

Bob,

We all know where fishtale lives and fishes, and the extra leader is not
required there.

If you check the DS article on my site, you'll see a note that includes
a drawing from an old (1988?) Fishing Facts article of mine, showing how
I used to fish what amounts to a DS rig, with a little leader. The
elimination of the leader and the introduction of the self cinching DS
weight have made what evolved into the DS rig into an every day tactic,
instead of the specialized rig we used nearly 20 years ago.
