He just says he "took the initative in creating it." BIG difference, right? Not invented, but more godlike created it. Ronnie http://fishing.about.com No, he was probably talking about how he co-sponsored the Information and Technology Act of 1992, opening commercial traffic on the internet. The internet existed before that-- commercial use did not. One could argue that the internet would look very different today without that Act. It really isn't that much of an exaggeration. There were no commercial "ISP's" before that Certainly, from the point of view of someone who's being using email since about 1981, I can say that the early '90s is when usage started becoming quite common. But, why rehash old silly arguments. Let's speak of something new. It would still probably look very similar to today's look. There were commercial companies hooked up also. We also used the research and the email parts. And the newsgroups. The people using it would have forced it even without AGore. Besides, he co-sponsored the act. Somebody came to him to get him to sign on to the bill. He was not the originator, and the originator would have been approached by a constituent. |

Gore was involved in and early federal effort to establish a widely used internet, and he was one of the most tech-savvy senators at the time. "Used self-serving language" is not the same as "claimed he invented the internet", and its not a lie (unlike "I'm a uniter, not a divider") -- Scott Reverse name to reply |
