This matter of the crookedness of the surgeon's knot is a recurrent theme
here. I've always had a hard time understanding this because mine don't
come out this way. treatise sniped

I've also never had a problem with crookedness. In a shorter explanation,
I believe it's simple because I'm very careful to pull the knot tight
evenly. With all that loose mono in your hands, it's tempting to just pull
it all together & fish, but I watch each loop as it goes together & tug as
necessary to adjust each one so that both pieces tighen together exactly
the same (as can practically be achieved). I always get a nice
symmetrical knot & straight leader.

Well, that certainly IS a shorter explanation......but I think it addresses
a different problem.

I have been looking at making hand made leaders and wonder how many
roff members make handmade knotted leaders and are they worth the
effort that it takes to make them?

Wow! Thanks to all who responded to my question. you'all are the
greatest. I knew I could count on ROFF! I tie my own flies and made a
2 wt rod so I think I'll tie a few leaders also.

Thanks again for all the valueable info!

Ed

Well, I purchased a supply of Maxima leader wheels and made my first
leader and tied it on my 2 wt and tried it in the back yard and it does
seem to turnover the fly much better! Can't wait to try it on the water.

Thanks for all the valuable info!

Ed
