And FWIW, you might be able to get airline interest sponsorship; airlines are drooling over the potential of China-related air travel, and the Chinese airlines are turning to American low-cost/regional airlines, like Southwest and Jet Blue for advice. The short story is that such a novel "expedition" might garner some interest from airlines. I have some other ideas, if you'd care to take it to email.
