Yes, I understand it's not exactly legal.... But with the weight of my
boat, I would guarantee any 9.9 would still outrun me, so I doubt anyone
would give me a second look. The only difference, as I understand it,
between a Johnson or Mercury 9.9 and a 15 hp motor, is the carburetors.
Exact same engine, different carbs.
Besides, I don't understand why they just don't do a speed limit instead
of a HP restriction?? It seems that for a boat to be running on plane,
would cause considerably less wake then a boat merely "pushing" water.
I'm all for keeping the shoreline erosion to a minimum, so that's why it
doesn't make sense anyway.

Thanks for the insight though.. and as a side note, I do not do things
contrary to the law normally, this is one of those rare instances.

Letter of the vs spirit of the law. LOL.

I'm just saying that you don't want a ticket. Besides it would be a lot
harder to make a ticket stick if the motor was originally sold as a 9.9 vs
one that has been relabeled.
