![]() "Ken Fortenberry" wrote in message . .. We've signed up for a bunch of "Wine Clubs", some of which I like and some of which I'd just as soon she cancelled. We get Ridge (woo hoo !!), Ferrari-Carrano (OK), Hop Kiln (OK), Bonny Doon (I swear if those crazy mother****ers ever send us another bottle of Bouteille Call I'll cancel it myself, wife be damned ;-), and Wine Garage (my fave). Living here in corn country it's nice to get California wines in the mail every so often but we're not sophisticated oenophiles, just winos. ;-) Ken Fortenberry Ken, you should take the wine tours out in the Napa Wine Country, they're outstanding if you're a connoisseur of fine wines. One year, one of the host at one of the Wineries got sick, so the gal in our party took over. They let her have at it, she was filling our glasses with the expensive cabs...pretty wild. Every year we head down to the Paso Robles Great Western Bike Rally at the end of May (Memorial Day Weekend). Lots of wine tours, and then make your way to Cambria on the coast for the famous ollieberry pie at Linn's bakery. One of the best in the world! Quite a few bead and breakfast there as well. enjoy, -tom |

We've done that and enjoyed it, but we're nowhere near connoisseurs. Actually we preferred the Sonoma Valley for quality of restaurants and winery tours. Korbel does a great job and is a gorgeous place but our favorite was Topolos in Forestville. Too bad they're going out of business. They were my favorite wine club too and they made famous the LOPT, the Loyal Order of the Purple Tongue. ;-) We like to visit the wine country whenever we're in the Bay Area. Unfortunately all our friends who moved to the Bay Area have one by one moved back to Chicago. Somewhere in there is a story of some sort. -- Ken Fortenberry |

I'll pass that on to our friends. Yes, the Sonoma Valley has a variety of good restaurants. The Bed & Breakfast are very popular today, most of the time you have to book far in advance. Bev and I have met the nicest people at the B&B's, we never stay in motels anymore. We also enjoy the home style cooking that they provide. I think the people who attend the B&B's go out of their way to make good company. -tom |
