from California I highly recommend the Wine Garage

Well, this has been a looming presence on the calendar for
awhile and I'm glad it's over. Now it's time to go fishin'.
I think I'm gonna tie up some big uglies and see if I can't
fool a Lake Kinkaid musky into thinking it's a gizzard shad.

you should take the wine tours out in the Napa Wine Country, they're
outstanding if you're a connoisseur of fine wines.

We've done that and enjoyed it, but we're nowhere near connoisseurs.
Actually we preferred the Sonoma Valley for quality of restaurants
and winery tours. Korbel does a great job and is a gorgeous place
but our favorite was Topolos in Forestville. Too bad they're going
out of business. They were my favorite wine club too and they made
famous the LOPT, the Loyal Order of the Purple Tongue. ;-)

We like to visit the wine country whenever we're in the Bay Area.
Unfortunately all our friends who moved to the Bay Area have one
by one moved back to Chicago. Somewhere in there is a story of
some sort.

Yes, the Sonoma Valley has a variety of good restaurants.
The Bed & Breakfast are very popular today, most of the time you
have to book far in advance. Bev and I have met the nicest people at the
B&B's, we never stay in motels anymore.We also enjoy the home
style cooking that they provide. I think the people who attend the
B&B's go out of their way to make good company.

Ken - I'm sorry that this thread got its start for such a sad reason,
but I'm happy that you're enjoying your wine and are thinking about a
fishing trip.

My buddies and I are getting out this weekend for a two-night backpack
for some Appalachian brookies. I just got back from the state store
with a bottle of Lagavulin, printed out my temporary non-resident
license on the computer, looked over my 2007 order of flies from Harry
Murray, admired my new Cabela's wading booties (the old pair is
finally being retired), and can't wait to hit the road tomorrow after
a short stop at work. I think we're going to be blessed with nice
weather, hopefully it'll be warm enough to get things going on top.

Oh, not so sad really. I'm glad to finally have all that
in the past and I thought it was delicious kismet to have
a half dozen bottles of interesting wine waiting for me
at home when I finished up with the unpleasantness.

And yeah, I'm really looking forward to a few days on
Lake Kinkaid. In a concession to impending geezerhood and
the requirements of musky fishing I've put a little 4 stroke
2 HP Honda putt-putt on my old Grumman canoe. This trip will
be the new putt-putt's maiden voyage.
