Personally, gravity only offends and disgusts me when I make a mistake

the people who use theirs when they have a perfectly good deck right
above them. But I'm not offended by them. Andy Rooney is okay
sometimes. Used to be okay more often. Video games and computer
games are excellent for me and mine. Gore Vidal was occasionally
amusing. Internal combustion engines are a cool idea. Over reliance
on them isn't. I'm pretty neutral on macrame and don't know enough
about string theory to offer an opinion (I know that's unusual here,
but I've got my own standards).

A few additions. I didn't notice hip hop and bad rap in there (some
rap is pretty good, but it's very rare).

Otherwise, it's looking like a fine list. If I knew who / what (I'm
presuming a who there) Adam Sandler is / was, I might agree on that
one, too.

I'm not to happy with the extinction of the dinosaurs and the random and
unavoidable circumstances of the cosmic universe. I mean, ****, humans
weren't even given a chance to drive dinosaurs into extinction. What's that
all about?

Well then, let me ask this - when the application expires/wears
off/whatever, are you no worse off than you were before? That is, I assume
this is not a permanent commitment that you *must* renew?

Nah - it's not a commitment in perpetuity. If you stop adding the stuff the
windshield might appear a bit hazy in time but you can just buff the
windshield to get what's left to shine again. Eventually you'll be back to
where you began...

It's not so much the occasional realization as the constant anticipation
that haunts me.

Line dancing keeps people active and way out of my
way, so I can't be offended by it.

This is probably a good place to point out that my little list (yes, it
could have been MUCH longer) was the result of a minor indulgence in stream
of consciousness. Some of the individual items might not have survived a
close and considered scrutiny. Line dancing, viewed in isolation, may not be
all that offensive.....I guess. It's just that it is emblematic of the sort
of herd mentality which, in it's least virulent manifestations anyway, leads
people to do things like.....well, line dancing, for example.

Concrete patios are excellent for
some people. My house has one. I don't use it and don't understand
the people who use theirs when they have a perfectly good deck right
above them. But I'm not offended by them.

Nothing personal on this one, concrete patios are just a stench in the
nostrils of God. I've had occassion to sit and broil on a couple of them on
hot sunny days. Um.....well, o.k., maybe just a wee bit personal.

Andy Rooney is okay sometimes. Used to be okay more often.

Crotchety gets tedious after a while. Crotchety coupled with an unvaried
schtick.....two thumbs down.

Video games and computer games are excellent for me and mine.

Very seductive stuff.....like television. Nuff said.

Gore Vidal was occasionally amusing.

"Myra Breckenridge" was a good read. Vidal should have shown the good grace
(and sense) to die immediately after its publication.

Internal combustion engines are a cool idea.

Stinky, inefficient, noisy, unnecessarily complicated, unreliable, and prone
to catch fire and/or explode.

Over reliance on them isn't.

The worst thing about these abominations is that they have insinuated
themselves into modern culture to such an extent that life without them is,
if not quite inconceivable in most places where they are prevalent, then at
least highly problematic for the majority.

I'm pretty neutral on macrame

This one is simply a matter of principle......sort of like leisure suits,
"Jonathan Livingston Seagull," Gordon Lightfoot.....well, let's just be
frank about it, the 70s. NOT being offended feels vaguely dirty.

and don't know enough about string theory to offer an opinion

Don't remember exactly where or when (probably NPR, in the last couple of
months) I heard a "prominent physicist" quoted as saying something like,
string theory has been an absolute disaster to modern physics. Wouldn't
know about that, but it makes my head feel funny.

(I know that's unusual here,
but I've got my own standards).

Puts you ahead of the pack. Most people make do with a gross
misunderstanding and misapplication of somebody else's indefensible
standards.

A few additions. I didn't notice hip hop and bad rap in there (some
rap is pretty good, but it's very rare).

One has to draw a line somewhere. I could still be adding to the
list.....for a long time. Yeah, that should be there.

Otherwise, it's looking like a fine list. If I knew who / what (I'm
presuming a who there) Adam Sandler is / was, I might agree on that
one, too.

An actor, or so we must reluctantly concede by virtue of the fact that he
appears in movies.

I'm not prepared to state that it can't happen, but I've never seen so much
as a hint of the hazing that Tripper mentioned. My own experience has been
that you just notice after a while that the water no longer beads up and
blows off as well as it did. Given enough time, the effect disappears
entirely. Not surprisingly, the duration is affected by dust, washing, and
even how frequently the windshield wipers are used......but it's always long
enough to justify the half hour or so it takes to treat the windows, mirrors
and headlights (assuming they are glass.....I don't recall what the
directions say, but I never apply it to plastics).

Bottom line: the desired results will probably make it a lifetime
commitment......unwanted consequences won't.

Wolfgang
