And yeah, this is still fun.

I'd say it's more amusing for some than others...

See, persistence CAN pay off! You have, at long last, actually said
something. And the frosting is that you couldn't possibly be more right!

Yeah, but you're fat, can't ride a bike, and fish for what, an hour a
year or something...if actually fished once in a while, those Orvis
waders would be in tatters before you got your second foot in
them...just check last month's issue of "Brian Keith's Outdoor
Ruggedness" for proof...it's the review right across from the Simms ad -
the one showing Charles Nelson Reilly benchpressing a '73 Buick in his
waders...

R

.....and people wonder why I love this place!

Simms has some lower end waders, somewhat above their lowest end, that ring

I've been wearing a pair of Simms Lightweights ($199, but not
made anymore) for four years now. When I worked part time in a
fly shop last year I bought a second pair at a huge discount on
the theory that the first pair would soon wear out.

They haven't yet.

I've compared notes with folks who have the original Guide model,
and the Lightweights appear just as tough. I'm not convinced
that the G3s or G4s are twice or three times as tough and/or
long-lasting as my Lightweights. I do know (from working in the
shop) that there are a lot of folks out there who will buy
whatever the top-of-the-line Simms model happens to be....

Hmmmm. Just talked on the phone with Nicole Apple. She and her
husband Jason own/operate Xclusive Xpeditions and can book a trip to
just about anywhere. Her picture is on the June 07 copy of Fly Rod &
Reel. Pretty lady. Met them at a fly show a couple years ago.
They're out of Bellevue, Washington.

I asked her about the Simms she is wearing in the picture. "Oh,
they're the best." And, of course I had to ask, "Does Simms give you
and your guides a discount on them?" Her answer was "NO!" When I
said that I have heard guides get a discount on Simms, she said that
was news to her.

My guess is that Xclusive Xpeditions (execrable name, btw) is
essentially a travel agency and doesn't *have* its own guides the
way a lodge or fly shop does.

She should inform herself. If the guides XX uses can prove to
Simms that they are in fact professional guides (and the
requirements aren't that stringent), then can get the pro
discount, and I'm sure they do.

Well, I do believe that the little piece of fancy weave on my Baileys
coordinates with most of my gear.

I just recommended to a mega-sports store employee to use the Orvis
Pro discount to get his 60% off of a Danvise. 60% off would convince
me to buy a certain brand.

Now hang on a tick, JR. I just talked to my grandmother. She and Bill
Shatner both own and operate telephones. Not only can she book a trip
to just about anywhere, but Bill can get her a discount. As one might
imagine, I've known her quite a while. Not to brag, but I daresay she
considers me family.

I asked her about Simms waders. She said she didn't know what they
were. I asked her if Simms gave her a discount. Again, she said she
didn't know what they were. When I said that Louie said that Fiona
Apple said that it was news to her that Simms gave guides a discount,
she told me to lay off the Martinis or at least to quit talking about
Semmes and his waiters (she's a little hard of hearing...)...so I did.

HTH,
R
....and FWIW, I'd trust someone, in Bellevue or otherwise, who named
their business "Xclusive Xpeditions" about as much as I'd trust, oh,
say, a review in some advorag...

I'd trademark that phrase before Simms or one of them Sevile Row
companies steal it...

Yes, those were the days of $200 waders for 20 days of fishing. And
in one case, $250 for 3 days. Nothing worse than a catostrophic wader
failure when you're in Labrador. Well, maybe a stick in the eye is
worse, cttoi.

Well, maybe, but it certainly makes trivial things like starving
children, war, poverty, and disease pale in comparison...OTOH, maybe
Fiona Apple and her husband can book yer ass into someplace where you
can see some of the world that isn't Orvis-recommended...someplace
actually extreme. And if they can't, let me know...I'll get ya into a
place or two that'll cause a leak in your G3s...from the inside, at
least...

That's not to say they aren't good waders, (or beer farts ;-), just

Okay, how 'bout this one. I wear Dan Baileys with the lifetime
warrantee. I've been told I'm tough on gear (blew out two sets of new
waders within 3 days of each other). Ended up with the Baileys and
haven't looked back. Comfortable, they wear well, and they've yet to
leak on me.

Well, **** - four out of five doctors recommend whatever Frank didn't
get injured in, or at least, contained all assorted parts for
reattachment...now THAT sounds like one of them there endorsement
thingies one can trust...
