A Dozen Flies in a Shadow Box

I've got 14 hoppers (Green - size 6, 8, 10, 12; Brown - size 6, 8, 10;
Yellow - size 6, 8, 10 and Brown & Yellow - size 4, 6, 8, 10) to mount in a
12" x 12" shadow box with a light tan heavy cardboard background. The tan
card is held securely to the back of the shadow box. There is no matte or
internal border so the full 12 x 12 is the display surface. The tying
instructions and recipes will be printed on 8 1/2 x 11" bond inserted into a
certificate frame. Any suggestions, comments and advice would be
appreciated.

Have you ever seen 12 or 14 flies mounted before? If so, did they look
crowded?

What is the best way to put titles onto the tan card background - labels,
letters, printing?

What is the best way to securely mount the hopper flies to the tan
background? There is 3/4" between the tan card and glass cover.

What is the best way to lay out the flies? Initially I was thinking:

HEADING AND TITLE


Green size 12, 10, 8 and 6 Brown & Yellow size 10, 8, 6
and 4



Yellow size 10, 8 and 6 Brown size 10, 8
and 6

Any other comments?

I did a framed shadow box type of thing a few months ago. My wife and mom
both scrapbook, and gave me some helpful suggestions and materials.
Your flies should mount fairly well with "mini glue dots". My mom got them
from a Stampin' Up! catalog. Worked good for me. For the tying instructions,
I would experiment with printing them on plain white paper until you get the
spacing and layout you want, then print them on your color choice of card
stock, mount the card stock to your tan cardboard back with some of the acid
free tape squares used for scrapbooking. As I said, these ideas worked for
me, they should work for you too.

....one problem is how to mount the actual flies.
The best way I've seen is to get a bag of small
vial corks at a pharmacy or a university chemistry
supply (where the students buy their lab 101 supplies).
Glue those to the background on a regular layout.

Then you can take the flies out periodically and
admire them.
