When it was a buck a gallon, how much were you making a year? $25k? $30K? Compared with Europe, consider yourself lucky. And, while you rubbing your lucky rabbits foot, tell the guvment to start building more refineries. The last one built was 30 years ago. That would help to keep the price down, btw. And don't forget to lobby for more drilling in Alaska. And off shore. You want cheap oil, Fred, we'll get it for ya, but you hafta do your part to. Sincerely (really!), Dave Before the clowns in power destroy our planet drilling for more oil and exploding more bombs - Go fishing! The brook trout are beautiful up in that part of Maine and tasty too. In 10 20 or -50 years they won't be there. One would think that with all the money and technology at our disposal that instead of spending obscene amounts of money on Iraq , Vietnam , Afghanistan, Raytheon, KBR and Haliburton & Dick Cheney's pockets that we could have dedicated a search for an alternative fuel source that would not destroy the planet. But why would those in power cut into the profits of the international Saudi -American and whatever else - oligarchy. I don't want to hear how lucky we are compared to the Europeans That is bull**** ! Oil company execs spout that kind of **** while laughing at the stuopid consumers. and Good riddance to dead Falwells and this thread! Am I happy he's dead? Not really! But it couldn't happen to a better man! Sincerely Fred |

![]() "Dave LaCourse" wrote in message news ![]() Well of course. Who buys a house with cash. We all have (had in our case) mortgages at one time or another. Most can't buy a home without borrowing money. He will pay off the 20 year mortgage and have a little nest-egg before he's 45. he doesn't own anything at 25 but an IOU. It proves nothing, although I wish him well, and hope he bought a lot of land, as the house itself depreciates. That was my only real point, David, except to possibly slow down the overall gloat that was developing.(BTW, yes, there are some out there that can, and do buy the home outright). My point was that I was in my 30s before I could afford a home. My grandson bought his in his early 20s, and my other grandson is in the process of buying his, and both of my children bought their homes when they were in their 20s. And my point is that you were in the Navy, making peanuts, compared to your civilian children. You are comparing apples and oranges. Though you may be also publicly be patting yourself on the back for good parenting, probably deservedly. It only illustrates that the economy is good. Unemployment is low, as is inflation and interest rates. My kids are having an easy time of it with the present economy. as pointed out, above, no, it really doesn't Djyou see the market today? Up another record high. Of course it is only on paper, or so they say, and what goes up can come down. Such is life, eh? precisely. It's a tool to make money, to be sure. One of many in a capitalist economy. You won't hear me beef about the whole concept. I don't get too hung up over today's exact numbers, I just am not that sort of investor, by and large. Still, there are many underlying issues that the GOP types have sort of pushed under the rug that are as troubling as anything Democrats have come up with. As I said, best wishes to you and your sons, but time will tell how well this developing Global Economy sorts out for lots of folks........ Tom |

IMHO, religion is neither all good nor all bad, its the people that really mess it up. I grew up in a house "controlled" by my Christian Scientist father. My mother was a nurse. If that doesn't get you questioning everything from a young age, I don't know what does. Too many lives have been lost over religion, millions of others have been destroyed. Jerry Falwell's litmus test for political leaders is not new in our country. While I have, and still do oppose any religious organization using its power to subvert or manipulate our political process, I don't wish them ill. The diversity of polical and religious values ebbs and flows like the tide. It takes more than one person alone to stem or change that tide. Falwell was one man, a figure head of a larger organization, part of a larger whole. I took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Change, even though I disagree with it, is not my enemy. Frank Reid |
