We were in AK in June and I tried for Kings w my 9 Wt flyrod
No luck
I don't even know if I could have landed a 30 lb king on a flyrod
We did ctch a few sockeye

That doesn't look like a fly rod on the ground, either, not that it matters.

That doesn't look like a fly rod on the ground, either, not that it matters.

I caught a few with my 14' spey rod, but that fish was caught with a
level-wind baitcasting rig, bouncing a heavy jig off the bottom. I think
a flyrod of 9wt or heavier would be OK for kings up to 40 lbs or so.

I caught two smallish kings with an ultralight spinning rod I was using
for trout, and broke off a big one on my 5wt fly rod.

BTW, the rainbow and grayling fishing was very good. No char. I've
attached a photo of a typical rainbow.

We had some bear encounters. A sow with three yearling cubs showed up
one evening headed up the river toward camp. We yelled at them and they
headed into the forest. The next morning I was returning to camp from
doing my business when one of the cubs stood up on the trail about 15
feet from me. Good timing, or I might have **** my pants. Later that day
they showed up at our next camp about three miles downriver. They never
caused any real trouble, but it makes you nervous enough to keep the
shotgun handy. I've attached a photo.

Lake Creek isn't for novice boaters. I've attached a photo of one of the
class III rapids. You could easily wrap a raft around a rock in some spots.
