I get the chance to spend a long weekend up at June Lake, near Mammoth Lakes on
the eastern Sierra. Any tips on where to fish this time of year? Any agreement on what's the best local fly shop to drop in on? Thanks, -R |

Any agreement on what's the best local fly shop to drop in on? www.thetroutfitter.com in the town of Mammoth Lakes and www.brocksflyfish a few miles south in Bishop. Both have online fishing reports and staffs that I've found to be helpful and knowledgeable. Without giving away any secrets, a few waters you might want to consider (assuming that you're flyfishing) are Rush Creek in the June Lake loop, Hot Creek and the Upper Owens in the vicinity of Mammoth Lakes, and the Owens Gorge and wild trout section closer to Bishop. Are lakes your thing? Convict has been turning out some big stockers in the 3-5 pound range. The majority of the fishing at Convict is by bait dunkers, but I've heard that the new owners of the lodge want to steer things much more toward flyfishing. Have a good time wherever you decide to go! Cheers, Bill |

Thanks, guys.
Yes, I'll be flyfishing and prefer streams to lakes. We're staying at the Double Eagle resort (birthday present from my wife, who likes spas), which comes highly recommended from Clearwater house. Any experience with their fishing "program"? I want my wife to get into this as well, so I'm hoping we can find some places (and a guide) that are good for a beginner but still enjoyable for a seasoned intemediate such as meself. thanks again, I'll check out all the links. -R |

I have seen a lot of scenery in the Sierras, but June Lake
loop is one of the best. Enter the south entrance and park in the vista parking lot. I guarantee it will be something you never forget. Ernie "R Krizman" wrote in message ... I lived in June Lake (Pop. 600) for a number of years... Plenty of choices
to consider.. If you're looking for the chance to tie into something BIG, then go down to Crowley Lake and tube around out in McGee bay. Rush Creek between Grant and Silver lake is nice, but I don't know how the water is this year. East folk of the Walker east of Bridgeport is always good and has some VERY nice Brown trout. The Owens river above Crowley is also one of the best areas (and my favorite) Check with the local shops in Mammoth and ask for a guide named Tom April or Bob Waggoner and tell him Wes sent you...
