Dan'l just called me from the land of the great fires. He and Cindy are
fine, they have lost some of their grape vines and"18 miles" of irrigation
system. One corner of their porch caught fire- but a neighbor was
successful in suppressing that. He is currently without landline

telephone-
and sketchy cell phone, in fact he called me on a borrowed cell phone. He
wanted to thank everyone for their thoughts and let those know who have
tried to call that all is ok. He and Cindy are watching the fire line on

a
distant hill at this moment. He said if anyone goes to San Diego, their
view won't be blocked by the trees :-(

Thanks for the good news! I hadn't had any luck getting through and was
about to try again after checking here. Good news about the house, too, and
the trees and vines will grow back. The 2003 vintage might have some smoky
notes though...

Cheers,
Bill

If memory serves, Dan'l recently said something about the 2003 vintage being
pretty much a bust anyway........still I suppose that doesn't necessarily
mean one would scrap the vines and start over.

Wolfgang
and hey, there's always dolmades.

Rootstock might have survived if it was a fast moving fire and didn't
burn out the ground. Not much, but a point to start over.

Only a fool would refuse to believe in luck. Only a damn fool would rely on it.
