Teh subject line of your post should be "OT" Peace treaty, what a
meathead!

Sorry. I'm still learning message board etiquette. You're right, I
should have posted that with the "OT".

Don't apologize. Whoever told you off is a schmuk. (can't remember or
be bothered to find out who it was - there are dozens of them here).

This newsgroup contains an extraordinary number of deeply damaged,
rather unpleasant people, for some reason. Where I fish, most
fly-fisherpeople are unusually tolerant, and most places I've been in
the world fishers are wise, tolerant and helpful.

Not here, though.

As you've seen, for some reason, Roff (rec.outdoors.fishing.fly) seems
to have attracted an unusual skim of agressive middle-aged men, mostly
american, with chips on their shoulders, who have nothing better to do
than pick meaningless, vicious fights with each other.

I've never met any of them, and I've no desire to.

A few of them do know a few things about fishing, (I can never remember
which ones, to be honest, are republican, and which democrat (in spite
of the title of the group, american politics is the main subject of the
group)), so I've been using it for information for many years.

But I would strongly advise you to avoid this place and talk to some
real fishermen who will be glad to help you.

Lazarus

Thanks. I realize I was trying the "Don Quixote" here by suggesting
folks tone down a bit. You are 100% correct though, with the advice
to talk to local fishermen. I have done that and everyone has been
great & I have learned a lot from them. But I've learned a lot from
folks here on the board too -- if you can wade through the nasty posts
and pick out the good stuff.

As Lazarus pointed out, it is better to refrain from involving oneself
in what might charitably be referred to as the "internal workings" of
this group.

If you can pick up useful information now and again then by all means
do so. But donīt attempt to enter into conversation with any of these
people unless you know them. They will insult and provoke you for
their entertainment.

Even on fishing matters, it is a good idea to take a lot of things
written here with a good pinch of salt.

Anyway, thanks for your thanks, and your attempts at peacekeeping, but
donīt waste any time on it. There is no way to change these people,
that is also why they never learn much about fishing.

Dave, if only you knew who Mike Connor really is, you would not listen
to one word he has to say. He is a pathetic hateful little man. He
has no allies on roff because of his past behavior. He has left these
pages fifty times in the past several years, always with a "I shall
never return" promise, but we always find him weaping on the doorstep.

There is a wealth of information on roff, and yes it is a nut house
with the inmates in charge. But after you've been here awhile, you
wouldn't want it any other way. Ask an honest question and it will be
answered without all the pontificating pompous poopoo from Connor.

His statement above regarding fishing matters means that no one here
can possibly answer any of your questions. I believe you have seen
differently in your short time here. If someone gives you bad advice,
someone else will step forward and advise you differently and chances
are there will be no acrimony. If Connor answers your question and
one or two other people disagree for one reason or another, well......
Katie bar the door because Connor is gonna have one of his
I-know-it-all-and-everyone-else-is-an-arsehole fits.

Davie boy, you and your dumb and misbehaved cronies have ****ed off
just about all the good fly-anglers who posted here. You post bull****
and attacks, and nothing at all useful. You are not ROFF, you are an
old fool. Fortenberry is not ROFF he is just a really nasty piece of
work who provokes and insults people for pleasure.

More and more people cease posting because of the atmosphere mainly
Fortenberry, ably assisted by others, like you, has created.

It does not matter where one fishes, how one goes about it is what
matters, and in what frame of mind and spirit. It does not matter how
many fish one catches, or how much tackle one can afford to buy, or
how many expensive and exotic venues one can afford to fish, or even
what any single person may know about it, what is important to true
anglers is the spirit of fishing, and the spirit of other true
anglers, and being able to share these things with them. You donīt
have it, and you never will. neither does Fortenberry.

I had hoped that a few people would join in and make you and
Fortenberry understand what you are and what you do. But it is not
going to happen, apart from a few brave souls like Sandy and Lazarus,
yes even the Guy from central Illinois who posted his thanks and tried
to be pleasant. he is a newbie, but he already knows more about
fishing and the true spirit of angling than you ever will. He tried to
share his pleasure, and he was censured by arseholes like you. The
first reply called him a "meathead".

You have no idea what angling is about, or what the brotherhood of
anglers is about, and you likely never will. Eventually more and more
sensible people will desert this place, because it is not worth the
effort of posting at all, if all that results is abuse and a load of
bull****.

When the only people who are left here are you and Fortenberry and a
coupll of other arseholes, you might dwell on that. It wont make any
difference to me, but it will make a difference to you and others, who
will certainly not be welcome anywhere else.

Mike, I am going to take the time to answer your verbose statement,
point by point.
Davie boy, you and your dumb and misbehaved cronies have ****ed off
just about all the good fly-anglers who posted here.

So, let's see: There is Wolfgang, RW, Frank Sr. and Jr. , the good
Mike, Peter Collin, Tatosian, Bob W., Snoop Dog, Jonathan, et al.
I've fished with just about all of them and they are all good anglers
by ANY definition. So, are you calling all of them poor anglers?

You post bull****
and attacks, and nothing at all useful.

Well, yeah, sometimes. Guilty as charged, Sir. But, ah ahem, so do
you. d;o)

You are not ROFF, you are an
old fool. Fortenberry is not ROFF he is just a really nasty piece of
work who provokes and insults people for pleasure.

Never said I was roff (it's lower case, Dumbo). And I fully agree,
neither is Ken. Can't speak for Ken, but I do proboke you for the
simple pleasure it gives YOU. You live off of it, Mike. It makes you
the center of attention, and THAT is what your psychotic narcissism
desires, graves like a opiate. If we ignored you (like we should),
you would cry like a little baby, and come back with some poorly
written doggerel, hoping we would all say in unison, "Praise be to
you, oh Michael the Wonderful. Praise be to you."

More and more people cease posting because of the atmosphere mainly
Fortenberry, ably assisted by others, like you, has created.

Then what the heck have I been reading (besides this good old ****ing
contest). Lots of good posts including some very nice recent TRs. No
one is afraid of Fortenberry or this old man.

It does not matter where one fishes, how one goes about it is what
matters, and in what frame of mind and spirit.

Man, you hit that one right on the head, Mike. EXACTLY the way I feel
about fly fishing.

It does not matter how
many fish one catches,

Agreed.

or how much tackle one can afford to buy, or
how many expensive and exotic venues one can afford to fish, or even
what any single person may know about it,

Agreed

what is important to true
anglers is the spirit of fishing, and the spirit of other true
anglers, and being able to share these things with them. You donīt
have it, and you never will. neither does Fortenberry.

You are wrong, Mike. I have several friends at Lakewood that I have
helped make better anglers by simply sharing a fly or a technique with
them. They are dear friends, something I bet you do not enjoy. I
have helped several roffians over the years with their fishing
techniques. Fortenberry? I believe he has shared a few things over
the years with others on roff. I've never really fished with him, but
I do know that his in-person-persona is quite different than his roff
persona. He's a nice guy for a #@*&^ liberal. However, he does not
suffer fools easily. You couldn't/wouldn't/shouldn't be his friend.

I had hoped that a few people would join in and make you and
Fortenberry understand what you are and what you do. But it is not
going to happen,

Yeah, your "straw poll" thinky sort of went flat, wot?

apart from a few brave souls like Sandy and Lazarus,

Neither Sandy nor Lazarus are "brave souls". They just don't like
Fortenberry. Neither does RW or Wolfgang, but they don't appear to be
any of your "brave souls".

yes even the Guy from central Illinois

He means so much to you that you don't even know his NAME? What a
jerk you are, Mike. A real jerk. You could have looked up his name
on one of his posts, but instead "Guy for central Illinois" is good
enough. If he had referred to you as the "guy from Germany" there
would have been hell to pay for ALL of us. You would have blamed us
for corrupting him. Man, you are a work of art, Mike.

who posted his thanks and tried
to be pleasant.

He didn't try to be pleasant, he WAS pleasant. I gave him grieve
about the fighting butt because I erroneously thought he had already
purchased a rod without one and was complaining. Turned out I was
wrong and apologized to him. It's right there, Mike. Look it up.

he is a newbie, but he already knows more about
fishing and the true spirit of angling than you ever will.

Well, since you don't know him nor me, I don't understand how you can
say that.

He tried to
share his pleasure, and he was censured by arseholes like you. The
first reply called him a "meathead".

Yep. That person was out of order and someone called him on it. And
if he was not called on it someone else would have.

You have no idea what angling is about, or what the brotherhood of
anglers is about, and you likely never will.

I learned angling in the 1940s from my mother and father, and an
uncle. They tied better flies than you and were far better anglers
than anyone I have ever met. They too would not suffer a pompous
pommy poopoo like you. Your problem, Mike, is that fishing is the
only brotherhood you have. Everyone on roff has something besides
fishing, something else that they love and are good at. Fortenberry
is into canoeing. I am into fast cars and track days. Tatosian does
RC stuff (if I remember correctly). Wayno does golf. We all have
something else beside fly fishing. Brotherhood? You don't
understand the word, Mike. Your behavior over the years on this forum
has proven that.

Eventually more and more
sensible people will desert this place, because it is not worth the
effort of posting at all, if all that results is abuse and a load of
bull****.

Seems to me there are lots of newbies, Mike. If it is not worth the
effort of posting, please, please I beg you, why do you hang on?

When the only people who are left here are you and Fortenberry and a
coupll of other arseholes, you might dwell on that. It wont make any
difference to me, but it will make a difference to you and others, who
will certainly not be welcome anywhere else.

And before that happens, Mike, you would have left roff AT LEAST
another two dozen times. Before long, you are probably going to ask
us to buy you a new cape. The one you have now has got to be frizzy
(made up word, there, Mike). d;o)
