Finally got the Orvis Men's wear and Gift catalogs that I had been trying to get for several weeks now, per my old post on this. Looked at the prices for shirts, etc., and all I can say is "Wow !" Are they kidding ? Just curious what you folks think ? Bob I have a fair amount of Orvis stuff. Not a single item was bought at full price. The nice thing about Perkin's operation is that they do have great sales. In fact I just got one of their HD double zingers, a real tank. Paid half price. Now that you are on their mailing list you'll probably get their newsletter/sales flyer every other month. I'd hold on to the gift cert for awhile if I were you. g.c. |

... Hi, Not much to do this afternoon, Sounds to me like you have to much time of your hands. I have to much work and no time. Grab your tool belt, I'll let you know where to show up tomorrow morning and I pay well. $12 an hour until you prove yourself and I buy lunch (my choice). Maybe after a few days you will feel good about having an Orvis gift certificate and not Walmart. $12/hr is supposed to be good? I make $25 - $60. Can't believe I just wrote what I wrote. Guy Thanks Lord, Some days are just plain worth getting up for. |

![]() "Robert11" wrote in message . .. Just curious what you folks think ? Bob Assuming you have an Orvis store near by, you might stop in and check pricing and sales. I recently bought this waist pack: http://tinyurl.com/264smj For the money they were asking, I wanted to check out the pack before purchasing. On the Orvis website, the pack was listed at $129.00, when I got out to the store, the price was mark at $98.00. I figured it would be the same price that they had listed on the website and I don't think that was a sales price either. While at the store, I did look through the clothing and it seemed pricey, however as David pointed out, the quality and style will outlast the cheap route. HTH, JT |

Having never owned any clothing with the Orvis label, I can't speak to the issue of their quality versus that of any other brand. However, the matter of style leaves me somewhat perplexed. How is it that Orvis clothing remains in style longer than that of any other retailer who sells the same styles? Wolfgang |

I also like the Ex-Officio clothing, however it's generally way over priced for my pocketbook. And you? JT |

I also like the Ex-Officio clothing, however it's generally way over priced for my pocketbook. And you? Generally, I pay no attention to brand names in clothing. Well, that's not quite accurate......generally I AVOID popular brand names, particularly when the name or logo is emblazoned somewhere on the article of clothing; I've never seen the benefit to the consumer (me) of paying for the privilege of being a walking billboard. Nor have I found, in my limited experience with popular brands, that they are necessarily more durable or stylish than many other options. I buy virtually all my clothing from the end of season sale racks at places like Target, Wal-Mart, etc., making only occasional exceptions if I happen to find something sufficiently discounted at the likes of Gander Mountain, Cabela's etc. I recently made an unwitting exception when, after looking unsuccessfully for a comfortable pair of low cut walking shoes in my usual haunts, I found a pair that fit, were comfortable and were affordable at Gander Mountain. It was only later when one of my co-workers asked if they were "Sketchers" (which I had, till then, never heard of) that I discovered they are apparently a popular brand. Incidentally, I was in the market for a new pair of shoes not because my old ones, purchased for about fifteen bucks at K-Mart seven or eight years earlier had worn out or disintegrated, but because they disappeared. As to quality, well most of the clothing items I purchase last long enough that I throw individual articles out (or, more often, donate them, still serviceable, to an organization like Goodwill Industries) only when my storage space gets crammed so full as to be frustrating, as happened recently in a move to a new apartment, or when, as I suspect happened with my shoes, someone else disposes of them for me. Wolfgang whose sartorial tastes have thus far remained blessedly free of the taint of stylishness. |
