I have dry flied for trout all my life and am now looking to salmon and
steelhead fish. I will be fishing around Chico california. Any web sites on salmon and steelhead fishing people can recommend? Any flies to recommend? My heaviest fly poles are a daiwa 6/7, a #1172 golden sabre 6/7, and a daiwa 8 weight. I only have 2 reels, a perine automatic fly reel no 81 and a hardy lightweight lrc. |

You're a bit late for salmon but in time for steelhead. One of the best
sites to check is www.fishfirst.com. They have a fly shop in Chico, and publish the best fishing report for CA, western Nevada, and occasionally report on Oregon. Your rods are big enough! In case you hook into something really large, just keep you rod tip pointed at the fish. Don't try to lift it! Your reels should hold a line and about 100 yds of backing. Any $20 to $30 reel will work, the more you spend, the more fish you will land When steelhead are fresh to the river, they will take traditional steelhead wet flies swung on a line. After they have been in the river for a while, they start to chew on the same things the trout eat, and are most successfully fished with a strike indicator. Most of this info is on the Fishfirst site. If you're goint to be around Chico, you should go by their shop for the best info. "Steve" wrote in message ...
