I can't WAIT! I take it that someone has been forcing you to watch the games? Games? What games? Turn off the TV and do something useful. The US is kicking Russia's ASS in Davis Cup. Roddick and Blake won in singles convincingly (especially Roddick). The Bryan twins are favored to clinch the tie with a doubles win. They're playing right now, up two sets to love. This will be the first Davis Cup championship for the US since, IIRC, 1995. Too bad Tommy Haas got poisoned by the Russian mafia, but hey, whatever it takes. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

I went huntin' first part of the day--no deer :~^ ( Came home and watched a Dell technician replace almost every component in my laptop--display, video thingy, and motherboard-- under warranty. Been off-line and usin' a university loaner computer to complete class assignments. One test, one PowerPoint presentation, and I'm done for the semester. So, yeah, I'm doin' "useful" things wit my life--I suppose? Op --besides, tennis is for rich pussys-- |

I take it that you are not taking your own advice, or are they playing the Davis Cup in Stanley this year?g I'm trying to make a point. Tennis, and Davis Cup especially, is an international game, as ROFF is an international forum. In all likelihood, tennis is at least played in every country represented in ROFF. My objection to the football talk here is that it's rude and provincial. Most of the world doesn't give a rat's ass about American football. It's as though some ROFF poster from, say, England were constantly posting about cricket. That would be pretty annoying, don't you think? -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

Most of the world doesn't give a rat's ass about American football. It's as though some ROFF poster from, say, England were constantly posting about cricket. That would be pretty annoying, don't you think? No. If our international brethren posted a bit more about their sporting activities, we might actually learn something new. As well, your suggestion that "most of the world doesn't give a rat's ass about American football" is an irrelevant assumption on your part, as you have no idea about what the rest of the world gives a rat's ass about, right. Furthermore, what with so many international students attending U.S. universities, it is just as possible that many people around the world would be very interested in American *college* football. Now if you had said that you have no interest in American football, and that anyone who discussed the subject is a rude and provincial lout, I'm relatively certain that no ROFFian jaws would drop in astonishment. I read this stuff on Outlook, and that allows me not to open threads that strike me as not interesting. Should I open an objectionable thread, I can stop reading whenever I wish. No, someone can post about anything they wish, and it doesn't get me all that worked up, so long as they aren't spamming, or stating something truly offensive to me...... Tom |

Whining about roff being off-topic has always been a futile exercise and football is no more, or less, off-topic than tennis. My objection to the football talk here is that it's rude and provincial. Most of the world doesn't give a rat's ass about American football. Well, hell, most of the world doesn't give a rat's ass about FFing, rod loading, Kreh numbers, the Cindy Crawford of the innertube industry, hunting in potatoland or anywhere else, Bill Clinton, or most of anything else, um, "discussed" on ROFF, so about the only real point you've shown is the one on the top of your head... It's as though some ROFF poster from, say, England were constantly posting about cricket. That would be pretty annoying, don't you think? Er, no, I don't think _anything_ posted to ROFF would be annoying...well, unless that evildoer that makes you read all these posts you aren't interested in would be so cruel as to make you read the posts about cricket, too...
