![]() People don't look or listen when spelling names. My last name is Kurt and you wouldn't believe the trouble I have getting people to spell it right. Four letters shouldn't be that hard. Cdog, Fishing with a worm and fly gear is fine with me - just not in a FFO or Artificials only section! In the days of my youth there was more variety in fishing techniques and the guys that could drift an unweighted worm or salmon egg through a riffle with fly tackle were pretty deadly. Before WWII spinning tackle wasn't available and subtle light tackle techniques were done with fly tackle. The guys that learned in that era did the craziest things with bait and lures using fly tackle. With spinning tackle these days those old techniques are sadly mostly gone. Now for the controversial part - what is fly fishing raises so much fuss because we have placed fly fishing on such a pedestal. It is viewed as the highest calling for a fisherman to be pursued only by those with the purest of souls and the highest of skills. Therefore, attacks on your definition of fly fishing reflects on you personally - your motives, skills, and commitment. I grew up in a world when it was just a way to fish that was the most effective when the fish were rising or the water was low and clear. The fly rod and floating line was also part of your bag of tricks to present spinners, worms, flatfish, or salmon eggs with, where legal of course. -- JeffK ------------------------------------------------------------------------ JeffK's Profile: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...php?userid=334 View this thread: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...ad.php?t=13330 ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

![]() New Jersey attempts to define flyfishing in it's regulations for -FLY FISHING AREAS- 1) Only artificial flies are allowed, which are expressly limited to dry flies, wet flies, bucktails, nymphs and streamers. Expressly prohibited are metal, plastic, or wooden lures, plugs, spinners, and flies with spinners attached or any multiple-hooked device. Spinning reels or any type of angling whereby a fly is cast directly from the reel are expressly prohibited. 2) Possession or use of bait (live or preserved) or any substance (natural or synthetic) that contains a concentration of bait scent is prohibited. 3) Fishing is not permitted during the in-season stocking closures.I guess we could argue about whether or not an unscented GloBug can be considered a "wet fly"..... BUT, AS LONG AS WE'RE BEING SILLY... Is a fly with a gold, copper or any other metalic rib a "*metal*" lure? I guess a "brassie" or a "copper john" is out of the question. What about the metal in a hook? Is a fly containing mylar, synthetic fur or yarn, or any other man-made material a "*Plastic*" lure? Is a fly containing natural furs, feathers, or any other animal part "*scented*"? Is a powerful forward cast that yanks a few inches of line from the reel "*Cast directly from the reel*"?Since a bare hook (or no hook) is not included in "-dry flies, wet flies, bucktails, nymphs and streamers-", one can only conclude that fishing New Jersey's fly-only waters is impossible to do legally. -- Pete ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pete's Profile: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...php?userid=444 View this thread: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...ad.php?t=13330 ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

Hey Kurp...oops sorry Kurt, Your point about fly fishing being put on a pedistal is true and has given it a bad rap. I have friends that I fish walleye and smallies with that won't start fly fishing cause they say their (including me) a bunch of snobs abd stuckups. I try to defend fly fishing and they tell me a story about the guy they ran into with a fly rod that wouldn't even say hi when they passed by with a spinning rod. I've heard this countless times from many people. Unfortunately, their teaching their kids what they think about fly fishermen and that's hurting the future of our sport. Question: How do you keep a worm on the hook on the backcast? lol Cdog -- Corndog ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Corndog's Profile: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...hp?userid=1696 View this thread: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...ad.php?t=13330 ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |
