Arroyo Pescado in Argentina?

Hey - has anyone here fly fished the Arroyo Pescado in Argentina? And
if so, do you know if one requires a fishing guide and/or reservation
to fish there?

I know it's a private fishing spot that costs $50/per rod. However,
I'm getting mixed messages as to whether that's all you need - if you
have to have a reservation beforehand, and/or if they'll force you to
go with a guide (I'd prefer to go it alone).

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Hey - a google of Arroyo Pescado will bring up many hits/info. Never
fished it, but it looks pretty sweet.

Does look like a cool place to fish ... you got me started trying to find
out more about fishing in Chile and Argentina. If I spoke Spanish I'd be
going for sure about this time next year ... but, being half-lingual ( I
struggle with English, let alone having a second language ) I'm a bit more
circumspect about a "do it yourself" trip, the only kind that has any real
appeal, to me.

Back after a hour of surfing "Chile web sites" ....

One thing that does make me wonder if I want to go there is the fact that
all the lodges and guides talk of naive ( behind locked gates ) fish and the
certainty of catching large numbers of them

..... sounds boring

I've fished a couple places/ times where nearly every cast produced a good
sized fish and it gets old rather quickly really.

Not every cast, but darned near....... don't fish Morrain Creek in
Alaska (big bows), or any river in Kamchatka (giant bows and
unbelievable Dollies). And certain days of May/June, the Rapid River
in Maine.

Or, you can do as I have on a couple of occasions: fish with a fly
that has its hook cut off at the bend.

Or, you can fish with the smallest dry fly you have and see how you
do. Twenty inch fish on a #20, 22 on a #22, etc.

Lost of things you can do to amuse yourself if you become bored.
Happy to say boredom has never been a bother to me while fly fishing.

I've done that, too, and now that I fish all barbless I very often give fish
slack so they can 'release themselves'

I've done the 20/20 thing ( dry fly ) but never
managed a 22/22 although it's clearly possible on the
right water, especially using small nymphs .... an honest 24/24 would
impress the hell out of me ...anywhere, any flyG

Well "bored" may have been an overstatement, but I have left such fishing
sooner than I would have left if it had been more challenging and
gone elsewhere the next day.

I wish I could remember doing that but I had to stop fishing w anything
under #16's as I cant see them anymore - Any smaller my eyes, even w
adapters - start to swim
I am not too happy about this kinda **** and growing old
But I see no viable option
and
I like fishing too much.

I'm starting a 10-day mostly-DIY trip down to Patagonia on Wednesday,
and I only speak a little spanish. I'll let you know how it goes.

Meanwhile --

So, nobody's actually tried to fish the Arroyo Pescado without a
guide? Anyone?

I've looked around online, and I'll try to email that one place you
linked to - but so far, I haven't gotten a definitive answer one way
or the other.

Info: I was given the "Trout Bums" video on a Patagonia trip mentioned in a
previous thread

It is THE single worst fishing video I have ever seen. It contains ZERO
information that might be of value. And unless you are 20something going
on 15, or younger, I can't imagine even finding the "style" entertaining.
I ended up fast forwarding through the last half.

I borrowed the disc from Uncle Wally and I can't get it to work in my DVD
player? I guess I should consider myself fortunate.

I did get the one on New Zealand to work and it is likely in the same genre
as the Patagonia disc, but I found it a fun watch--what I have seen of it,
that is. I was fillin' my new Fishpond chest and backpack--that I gave
myself for x-mas--so I'll have to watch the disc again to ge anything out of
it, except that I want to head to New Zealand as soon as possible!
