![]() I usually find some good deals on necks. Not usually A quality, but good for nymphs and large drys. I use the FF Show as a time to stock up on supplies, and I usually buy at least one totally useless fly tying tool hoping it will revolutionize my fly tying. AK, that's because there are less and less fly shops and more and more guide services. ![]() strange that so few of the guide services put on demos or seminars. One would think teaching newbees how to fly fish would be good for business. Here's a plug...The Tight Lines fly shop has a large booth at the show and are very helpfull. Their shop has most of the items one would need and they are always glad to answer tying questions. If you are ever in Pine Brook, NJ, I would recommend checking them out. RC, Find a fly tyer that doesn't have anyone watching him and tell him you're just getting started and could he show you how to tie a basic nymph pattern. I've had guys show me start to finish. Trust me, they want to show off their skills. ![]() I agree with Cdog. Tight Lines is a great shop. That's where I buy all my material. I even took classes there in the fall. If you have any questions they will answer them. When I want to learn a new pattern I go there and buy the materials and they show me how to tie it. If I don't understand it the first time they will do it again. I would recommend them to anybody new or old to fishing and tying. See you there, Cdog I agree Cdog... most don't demo. I noticed this year again Mr. Humphries is staying in retirement and (so far) not listed to provide a casting demo. Too bad.. man with great dignity and class. I do sit in on most of the seminars. I enjoy listening to the various techniques that each guide employs, and their PATTERNS! I am a habitual note taker, even with the lights out. Paying attention and someday finding yourself in a simular situation... helps out. TL, I had a spey rod and just fooled around with it till one day saw Drew make a few casts and signed up for a series of instructions. Well worth every cent those lessons were I'll tell you. /IMG -- AKSkim *.... Well worth every cent those lessons were I'll tell you. /IMG Joe has always been my mentor. I've learned and applied all his techniques to my fly fishing style. He is the farthest from conventional that I've ever seen, which is perfect for me cause I have always strived to be different than the herd. I was disappointed when he told me that his retirement was permanent. He always loved teaching the kids. After his demo at the FF Show each year, he would take my son and other boys aside and show them casting techniques one on one. He was instrumental in my oldest son's love for fly fishing. I wish he could be there for my 15 year old. Some day I plan to follow his footsteps to Labrador for monster brookies. I have heard that he still does some one on one in western PA. LOL...I'm the other guy in the seminars taking notes in the dark. Dammit! Then I guess us non-professional tyers should just throw our Danvices in the trash and get something else. It's a shame cause it's worked flawlessly for more than 5 years now.
