It is worthwhile getting a waterproof case for your mobile phone
anyway. I gave a few similar to these, printed with my business
details, away as presents to various anglers etc and they were well
received.

Doubtless there will be similar waterproof phone bags etc available in
the USA.

I think I have it all figured out well enough to satisfy me .... but I don't
think Verizon phones have sims cards ... seems that they are only mentioned
on phones for other services.

I've ruined two phones this year and it's costing me more than talking is
worth ... I think I'll buy a refurbished phone this time ... got a couple
calls to make today to confirm it

Oh, and if you think the service is a scam ... check out the 'insurance'
fine print ( which I have never gotten and never will )

You're right. Verizon does not use GMS.

One alternative, Larry, is just to go to Target, buy a $39
T-mobile *prepaid* phone and just buy airtime cards as you need
them. *If you don't like the cheapo phone you get at Target, toss
it out (or save it as a spare), buy an *unlocked* GMS phone on
Amazon and put the T-mobile sim card in it.

Um, I'm already signed up for at least another year with Verizon. * *I don't
have a clue how it works elsewhere but it is most assuredly a scam here.

T-Mobile question .... got any idea if it works in Greater Yellowstone area?

While in Yellowstone a couple of years ago we learned that AT&T had
poor to
no service in Yellowstone. Lots of people were speaking on cell
phones - with
Verizon service.

Not to be pedantic but it's GSM

news
As reported recently, I "need" a new cell phone. I only use the damn
thing in summer to call home, but went to the Verizon store today cause I
was near there for a Dr appointment.

Seems they only have expensive do everything models and all I want to do
is talk.

Larry,

I saw an add for the following this weekend and thought about you and you
cell phone needs:

http://tinyurl.com/3blywf

Simple. Bigger, backlit
buttons. Bright, large text.
Powerful speaker sounds
loud and clear.

Affordable. Service starts
at just $10 a month¹. No
long distance or roaming
fees². No contracts

HTH,

JT
