In article , Tom Nakashima
wrote: http://www.flyanglersonline.com/prorevw/hexagraph.html I think he may be referring to the Hexagraph line of rods made by the English rod-makers Bruce and Walker, much praised by the late Hugh Falkus. I think (but I'm sure Mike Connor will know) that they were made of carbon fibre, but following the notion of a split-cane rod. I regularly fish B&W rods - indeed my absolute favo(u)rite salmon rod is their 12 foot 'silver stream' for the mountain rivers of Donegal like the Finn (white, or pale) River (I keep looking out for a backup on ebay, but haven't yet found one) But I, too, have heard bad things about the hexagraphs, and have never fished one. Interesting rods and interesting concept for sure. Cosmetics are OK but nothing spectacular. Personally, unless you're getting a hell of a deal or they've dropped the price since I last looked at one, I'd just as soon buy a fiberglass rod for the action and pocket the difference. |

They were, without a doubt, the worst casting rod I've ever had the unfortunate experience of casting. The design concept for the rod is fundamentally flawed. That was my experience as well. I cast one that Walt sent me and promptly sent it back. I don't know if Bruce & Walker is still making the Hexagraph or not but the Bruce & Walker Hexagraphs Walt Powell was bringing to the US were broomsticks. Supposedly they're better now but I wouldn't know about that. -- Ken Fortenberry |

Steve Thanks for your feedback Can you elaborate a little more pls - did you cast them all ? against what? Your comment brings to mind some other negative comments I have heard previously maybe from you?? That may be enough for me to look elsewhere and they are pricey Thanks Fred |

Some guy brought one of the hexagraph rods that were made in Houston to Rendezvous about a decade ago and I played with it for a while. I don't remember what weight it was, but it didn't impress me much. I had forgotten all about it till I saw your post. I think you would be happier with an old Scott G series rod, a Thomas and Thomas, a Temple Fork Finesse or a Winston instead. Big Dale |
