When a Democratic presidential candidate can praise Reagan and the
Republican party, maybe there is some hope for moderating the divide
between the two parties and the animosity between their supporters.

Not to burst your bubble, but what precisely did you read in Obama's published
statements on the above topic that you conclude constitute "praise"?
