news:hXiBj.5340$Mp4.2302@trndny02... $3.27 and climbing here in Northern Indiana.... Everyday it's gone up 3 except for the 2nd, that's when the BIG jump cames, .20 cents... Think it'll make it to $4.00 a Gal. like their prediction?? Yep, they will climb it up well over 4, back it off to just under, and then raise it back up to a few cents over. Just like they did at 2 & 3. Its about desensitization. When you have seen gas at 4.59 then 4.09 will seem cheap. |

It's open season on the pocket of the American consumer - of course - the consumer is us, and we don't seem to be learning from this...still see a great many one occupant cars on the road, lots of speeding - all the related gas slurping activities..... |

I did back off from the 6.0L 3/4 to to a 5.3L 1/2 ton. Doesn't gain much, but some. I kept the 3/4 for the big trialers though. Daily its 2-3 MPG better. With boat about the same. Maybe 1 mpg better. |

My response was in general, I see lot's of BIG SUV's that don't pull a thing
and don't get dirty. I have a 4.0L Ranger, It's more than enough to tow my 17' 90/65 jet and has to work to tow the 21' Champion. 18mpg except when towing the Champion, then it get's down to 12-14 mph "Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers" wrote in message ... Some guy in a pickup took the rim and almost new tire before I could find a wide spot on the levee to pull over. I could only get one more lug bolt in Sacramento, and towed back the 55 mph speed limit. Averaged 16.7 mpg for the 90 miles. 4300# boat and 2004 Duramax Crewcab. As an aside, I filled up at Flying J in Lodi, Ca and spent $90 to fill up at $4.089 / gallon. |

![]() My problem is that I went smaller vehicle-wise and boat-wise both, a long time ago, so I've got nowhere to go for savings now. I run a G3 Eagle 175 with a Yamaha 50 on it. I'd save some gas switching to a 4 stroke, but I don't bun all that much now, and the trade-up price tag would take years to reach break-even. Can't live without my trips to Champlain every three weeks or so, and each of them between towing up and back, and back & forth while I'm up there for a couple days, is about 50 gallons in the truck and another 10 or 12 in the boat. Other than that and maybe a yearly trip to Maine and a few trips to the Hudson, I rarely fish more than 50 miles from home, and if I burn 10 gallons in a month in the boat, it's a lot. I did pick up a used kayak to fish a couple no-motors-at-all lakes last year, but only used it once. Maybe I'll fish from the yak a little more often this year. Gotta take a-hole lessons first though, so I'll fit in with the yak crowd. |
