Hey, he could have given you "country" directions...you know,

"Go down the road ol' Jubal was killed on back in '61, past where the
old Jones place was and turn at where the Smith place was before it
burned back in '38. Then, you a far piece 'til you'n come to where Bill
Clabberbreath shot that big ol' buck a few years back...that Bill, road
hunted for 50 years and never got caught, heh-heh-heh...start lookin' to
yer left, and when you come to crossroad that goes off to where the old
Baptist church was 'fore they moved to town, go the other way. The road
right past Sam whathisname's driveway is what you're lookin' for..."

TC,
R

g those would be decent directions in the south...but north of...well,
you know how they are up there. tawk funny too. but, if there is a bar
next door, i reckon i've probably been in the vicinity. the alcohol laws
and availability in that area of pennsylvania cause one to be mindful of
his surroundings...at least during the hunter/gatherer phase. the
consumption phase is a bit of confounding in my experience.

Aw, pshaw - the only seemingly true thing Jim Carville ever uttered was
that Pennsylvania is Philly in the east, Pittsburgh in the west, and
Alabama in the middle...and I think the test of that little ditty is
soon to be made...

IAC, it's been my experience that most northerners are decent enough
folks and the cities exciting and congenial...if they could just get rid
of the damned yankees...

hell, I go fishing on Spring Creek, spend a couple days in the mountains,
and the disparaging Southerners come out of the woodworksg!! We
appreciate the South up here, by the way.....after all, old folks from up
here have to retire SOMEPLACE, don't you know. Oh, and there is the matter
of trout, we have them, readily nearby, and rock climbing is a sport
separate from trout fishing around here. Disparage all you will.

BTW, those 'country directions' actually would be perfectly applicable
around here, but would sound more like:
You drive past Walt Zimmerman's place and turn where the old Yoder farm
used to be, head toward Millheim and go left at the turnoff to Millmont, but
if you get to Mill Haven, you've gone too far. Don't go right, or you'll end
up in Mill Hall! Two streets after the harness shop, turn right until you
see Jacob Zimmerman's place and Bruces shop will be at the old stagecoast
stop by that creek that flooded back in '03.

We'll get you to it, Jeff. Heck, you've driven past the place about 100
times, I would guess.

Tom, it would go more like this - Go past Blue Balls and turn right at
Bird in Hand, make a left at Virginville and keep going strait until
you get to Intercourse.

No kidding they are towns in Pa...
