Utah mid-July?

I'm likely to be in SLC in mid-july, and am looking for advice on
fishing in the area.

If you could do a daytrip from SLC, where would you go?

Any decent creeks or high country lakes hikeable from near Snowbird?

If you've never fished the Green, and were going to for a couple of
days (and might never again in your life), would a drift-boat w/ guide
be worth it? Any recommendations?

I didn't use their guide services, however the shop is pretty nice and the
guys were very helpful.

It would probably be worth your time to do a 1/2 day float and then do your
own thing the next couple days. Don't know if you have a boat or not, but
the shuttles are spendy. There is wade access.

We stayed at this place, it's nice enough and they have a restaurant for
breakfast, lunch and dinner. We would have camped but it was middle of
winter this last trip. Froze our butts off!

I see they have a guide trip special with 1/2 priced room. They also have a
decent flyshop..

the Green is the best, but it is 3 hours. The Prove is 30 minutes tops
and is great all wild. Great steam.

Jon,

There are lots of great options. The Green River is obviously a great
choice, especially during the week. Last July, I had a fabulous day
wading the river without a guide using only large bushy dry flies. It
was a hoot. Nothing against drifting with a guide, but I can give you
a few pointers that should put you on fish w/o having to spend the
$400/day.

As for lesser known streams... there are a number of options within 2
hours of SLC. Feel free to email me for more info. As it turns out,
I'll be in Utah the entire month of July. Depending on your dates, I
might be able to join you for some SLC-area fishing if you're
amenable.

Thinking of towing the boat back to Utah and Flaming Gorge. How deep is the
Green and are powerboats allowed. Is a river jet boat. Is this below the
dam? Also looking for a recommendation for a nice campground with shade.
Truck camper does not have A/C.

Drift boats only below the dam. There's a campground near Little Hole.
Not much shade there or anywhere else near that section of the Green
River

Thanks to all who replied. Looks like I'll get a shot at the Green.
Not everything is worked out yet, though. I better start practicing my
casting...haven't fished much lately.

I once heard a talk from a WY guide about fishing the upper Green
river (above Flaming Gorge). Sounded very hit and miss but some
awesome fish occasionally. Power boats might be allowed up there. He
said you really had to hunt for fish, though. I think the upper Green
has problems with dewatering due to irrigation, IIRC.
