So any use these Mepps lures for bass. How is your luck?

I just bought one to try out havent used it yet.
Here in the picture with the four lures I got the third one
Size 2 blade size 6 hook chartreuse 1/6oz

Any tips on how to fish this. A slow steady retrieve?

Most of the bass I do catch are 12"-15" so Im thinking its a good size.

Ray

Hi Ray,

Yes, the spinner you bought will definitely catch fish. Just like any other
lure, you will have to experiment with your retrieve to determine what the
fish want on any given day. Some days they'll want it moving fast and up
near the top, other days they'll want the lure low and slow. You will have
to find out what your bass want. You can fish them with a stop and go
retrieve as well as giving the lure an occasional jerk to stimulate a
strike, but Ronnie's right, occasionally it will tangle with the line.

One thing you'll have to remember is to use a GOOD ball-bearing snap-swivel
as these lures will give you a pretty fair amount of line twist. The other
thing you can do is bend the line tie eye up so the tie is at about a 45
degree angle. Make sure there is enough room between the blade clevis and
the bend so that the spinner blade can turn freely. This will reduce but
not eliminate line twist.

I used to fish inline spinners like Mepps a lot, but I don't really like
adding hardware like snap-swivels. I figure every connection is one more
possibility for failure under the pressure of a good fish and prefer to tie
directly whenever possible. So now, when conditions dictate a smaller lure
presentation, I like to throw the smallest Secret Weapon spinnerbait I can.
They work great for smaller fish (as well as big ones), don't twist line and
having a single, upturned hook, are less prone to snagging than a treble
hook equipped lure. The only time I throw an inline spinner is the big
bucktails for muskies.
