Default Old medalist and the new RC spools..

Hello,
Searched around to find info on whether the new rim control spools fit
on the old medalists. I had trouble finding an definite answer so I
just bought one and gave it a try. I have two 1495 from different
era's. One is actually the left hand version of a 1495 made in the
late 50's and is stamped 1595 and "Patented" by the reel foot. The
other is from the 60's and stamped 1495 "Made in Akron O USA" by the
foot. The 1595RC spool fits on the 50's era medalist stamped Patented,
but not the Akron O USA medalist. It seems to be a problem with the
spool post collar on these and it rubs somewhere when you press the
spool release latch slightly and hold it the spool spins without a
problem..Just thought I'd report my findings and hope it would help
someone that was wondering the same thing. I don't have a DA medalist
so I'm not sure if they work on those. I have a shooting head system
with heavy sink heads and wanted to get rim control in case something
unknown "lurks in the deep".Figured I'd be a bit more prepared. Glad
it fits on one of them.

Good luck. I think there have been a lot of Medalist knock offs over
the years, with lots of little diffs.

The new 1498 rimmed spools fit on both of my old 1498s. The "spare"
spools I have had forever don't exactly fit each other. One has a
loose bushing (It was made that way ). If you move that spool around
you have to trasfer the bushing as well. The new rimmed spools
worked but they look and feel like a POS. I gave the one I had to
Goodwill. It seem sacriigious to put that POS on a good American
reel from the days we made good stuff in this country.
I first used my 1498 in the late 50s and it work as good as anything
available ( for the money I had) then. I used it last in the late
80s and a medium Chinook bloodiesd my knuckles pretty good. I put it
on the shelf, I can look at and it brings good memories, for fishing
the Okuma works good enough.
I have a 1492 that works great, and I use it. It isn't going to get a
Chinese spool, rod or line ever.

Thanks for the kind words. Just sharing the info for anyone who
thought of trying it...No offense meant. Why not put a good old
American spool on that Okuma? geez...
