Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, man that's a lot to pass by and long way to go to fish a tailwater. ;-) True, but where else in the States can you consistantly catch *native* trophy brook trout in the 5+ pound range, ... I could tell you, but then ... well, you know. ;-) Hint: they go into Lake Superior, grow *real* big then return home. A 7wt isn't too much rod. ... The Rapid closes on the last day of September, but the Kennebec is open until the end of October. Great fishing with streamers and nymps. Not much surface action that late in the season. And, it is *cold*. I'm going to get up to Boulder Junction as soon as Kaylin gets the OK from the vet. She was spayed last Friday and has nine stitches in her belly due to come out Tuesday. The Wisconsin/ Michigan trout season ends Sept. 30 so I hope to get some last minute trout fishing in before I concentrate on muskies and smallies. Next year we'll add grouse hunting to the schedule, she'll be almost 18 months by then and ready to start hunting. I love late September/October, it's a great time to be in the Midwest. -- Ken Fortenberry |

A handy versatile item I've used lately for camping is a gold pan. Haven't found any gold yet :-( but upside down it makes a very nice and stable stove table, and rightside up it makes a handy washpan. I haven't backpacked with it yet, but it's pretty light and can slide down the in-side of a pack. Plus you can pan! Jon. |
