10 days later. You considering it? :-)
If we can get a trip of just flyfishers, then there's no 'social
pressure' to make river miles, etc, and we can fish the river pretty
intensely.

It is on my lifetime agenda with Patagonia and a couple of rivers in Russia
I recently had 2 people from Russia fish our lake
they caught 3 4-5 lb rainbows ea
They had smiles as wide as their faces
They invited me to fish the Ponoi and a river in Siberia
I will take them up on their offer

later in June, or first of July?

I'll research a later start, but as we get into early July, we enter
the summer rainy season. The rivers tend to get blown out if its a wet
summer (the rainy season only lasts 3-5 weeks). Since we're at the
headwaters, we could layover for a few days to let it clear up, but
the intensity and duration of the rains is unpredicatable, so we try
to get out ahead of the season to ensure better weather and fishing.

As for food: all that is taken care of! Since we are so far from any
towns or shops (the nearest actual 'grocery store' is in Meron, about
400 miles away), the guides row a small baggage raft with staples like
potatoes, onions, wheat flour, eggs, hunks of meat, etc. They prep
each meal from scratch at camp...last year we had lots of baked/fried/
grilled meals, heavy on the red meat and starch, but very very tasty.
There's no food management issues on these trips. Local guides handle
ALL the logistics....we get off the plane in Ulaanbaatar, and get back
on 10 days later, with everything in between taken care of. That
includes interior flights, off-road transport, hotels at each end,
etc.

We drink river water: there is no point source of pollution upstream,
but we also boil and filter water for those who are insecure. However,
everyone (including SWMBO) drank river water last trip.

Beer is available, plentiful, and very tasty.

Sounds like a winner. You have all bases covered. Count me in as a
definate maybe (at this time). I will just have to sacrifice the last
two weeks on the Rapid. d;o( Hey, that would pay for the airfare.

One of my friend who made this trip from France to Seoul and Ulambator took
a Korean cooker from Seoul who provided the food and service for very cheap.
Far better food than Mongolian food according to him !
Another friend of mine and me are trying to go there some time but I think
it would be difficult to join your group as we would travel from France. I
would have been great to meet American fishermen in Mongolia !
There are not only trouts in Mongolia but also taimen fishing !
