If nothing else, it's a way to fill the long, dark winter hours. :-)

My eye sight was never the greatest so tying small flies for freshwater were
out.
Spending time on ROFF will drive you nuts
so perhaps
I need to learn to play some fly fishing songs
Are there any?

If you're reasonably handy and have some extra time, building a couple
of rods would make special gifts. It's not difficult at all. I've bought
nice kits at hookandhackle.com.

Can't get hookandhackle.com to come up on my browser. Anyone else
having this problem?

Jim

well, i will second the other wayne's advice: contact waldo at
ezflyfish.com. i don't know if he still handles the series, but he put me
on a little hardy 4 piece that is a joy.

but, then, i am infamous for taking the position that the best purpose
for sage fly rods is in beating large, dangerous snakes to death.

um, well, there's "down by the river", one of my favorite neil young
songs.

wayno(i don't guess there really is a whole lot of fly fishing relevance in
play, however)

Here's your chance, Fred. Write some and produce a 'Sounds of Fly
Fishing' CD .... put me down for an autographed copy

You could start with a Heavy Metal number called "Chuck and Duck"

Money doesn't talk

If you think that a very expensive rod is better than some other less
expensive tool, then you must perforce buy the expensive one. One thing
is certain, it will not normally catch you any more fish than a cheapie.

Quite excellent rods which cost ten dollars ex-factory in Korea, or
Taiwan, are regularly sold in Europe and America under various brand
names, for well in excess of two hundred dollars, and sometimes a very
great deal more. The final price has little to do with the cost of
actually producing the rods, and certainly not with the raw material
cost or the inherent "quality". Transport, advertising, several
middle-men taking their profits, etc etc, all jack the price up.

This is also why comparing rods based on their retail prices is
absolutely senseless, as you have no way of knowing how this price was
set. It may have absolutely nothing whatever to do with the quality of
the rod.

received the first of my usual abundance of holiday fly-fishing catalog
mailings today - feather-craft's christmas offerings. it's interesting
to see what this retailer charges for a blank, a blank + kit, and a
finished rod.

winston BII-MX 4 piece 4 weight: blank - $338; kit - 448; rod - 675

sage gen 5 tcx series, 4 pc, 4 wt: blank - 390; kit - 508; rod - 780

tfo lefty kreh ticr-x series, 4 pc, 4 wt: blank - 112.50; kit - 162.50;
rod - 249.95

Sorry, I've been away casting and blasting down south.

Yes the Launch is what I had in mind. Good luck.

Tis the season. . .
We wish you would clean our fish, miss.
We wish you would clean our fish, miss.
We wish you would clean our fish, miss.
And bring us some beer.
