.....an interesting view supporting an early form of unequal or graduated
taxation: "When the toll upon carriages of luxury, upon coaches, postchaises, &c. is made somewhat higher in proportion to their weight, than upon carriages of necessary use, such as carts and wagons, &c. the indolence and vanity of the rich is made to contribute in a very easy manner to the relief of the poor." want to guess the source of the quote? Tom Easy. Simply google it. Question: Who determines what rich and poor is? I had a couple at the food pantry on Thursday driving a three year old BMW 5 series. Should they be paying a higher toll than, say, The Handyman in his new fishing car. And, no, I didn't miss your point. d;o) Dave |

Still, it's strange days we're in when someone who thought they could afford a 5 series now feels they should benefit from the services of your food pantry. Tom |

Tom The application of tax should not be on the material purchase but on the use of that purchase. Some one who uses an expensive vehicle extensively should pay more than one who uses one sensibly and conservatively. -- Bill Grey |

It's even stranger when Barney, Dodd, and Obama told those poor people that they could afford $400,000 homes when they only made $50,000 per year. That is the crime, Tom. Dave (BTW, the guy in the BMW 525 works as a hospital orderly, and his wife in the custodial section of the same hospital. They were laid off. That new lawn in the Capitol will really serve these folks, eh? They aren't used to asking for help from strangers.) |

In most counties, the public health system is the largest employer by far. In this economy, hospitals are being squeezed, badly, due to lost insurance compensation from layed-off workers, and the resulting increase in uncompensated care. Tom |

Tom And your idea is to spend $900,000,000 to create 3,000,000 jobs. Do the arithmatic, Tom. It makes no sense, no sense at all. Give me a slice of that pie. Give me $300,000 and I'll creat ten jobs. Give my daughter and her husband a $30,000 a year break and they will create a job that pays $30,000 a year. Tax 'em and weap. This is no time to raise taxes on anyone, least of all the folks that create most of the jobs. Dave |
