Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving can mean many things to people. I have a dear friend who
came out of surgery yesterday afternoon to discover it was, indeed,
cancer. The doctors told her it should respond well to chemo. She
does not fear dying and is thankful for the time she has had and may
still have. I just got off the phone with another friend who is
thankful his autistic child is smiling and happy today. But let us
not be thankful for the burdens we do not have to bear, rather be
thankful for what we have. If the mashed potatoes are lumpy we'll
enjoy them just the same, if the gravy spills on the cranberry sauce,
we'll be thankful for cranberry sauce just the same, and if the hungry
come to our door, let us be thankful to feed them.

I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING FLOATING INTO THE SKY,
WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.
BUT I MANAGED TO YELL, AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES,
HAPPY EATING TO ALL -- PASS THE CRANBERRIES PLEASE.
MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY, MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP,
MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP,
MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS, MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,
MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER
STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

I have thanks in that I can have my father over for Thanksgiving. He does
not have a lot of years left with us so we cherish what time the good Lord
keeps him in our company. My father is the one who showed me how to
fish..... the first time was with a bucket of worms and fishing for
'shiners'. I don't think even the biggest brookie could ever replace the
memories given to me by that outing. His health is not the greatest now, he
stopped fishing several years ago, but his conversations about the "big one
that got away" will alway enlighten any meal. Again I give thanks that I can
share tomorrow meal with my father.
