Default rod abuse??

I broke my 9 weight tfo on the feather today
I caught a salmon, my line was all the way in, just the 10 feet of
leader. I put my pull in the water so I could get a hold of the line to
release the salmon, and he made a run and broke my pole just past the
mid point

Is it wrong to let your pole down to grab the line? Will temple fork
consider this my fault? How does it rate as far as rod abuse?

Tell them that you broke the rod on a fish, and leave it at that.
Everything should be fine.

Hi Rusty, I told them exactly what happened (in detail) and they waived
the $25 fee.

I am a beginner fly fisherman and am still wondering if I did something
wrong?

Yes, you did!

If you can't learn to lie, you will never become a decent fisherman.

Pat on your back for your honesty. Some thing that seems to going by the
wayside these days.
As a side note it IS ok to lie like hell sometimes about size ,number, of
fish and to stretch the story.
You could have told it like this.
I had a small trout on . A small mouth ate it with a large mouth swallowing
him. He then proceeded to make the third run around me then ran between my
legs shot to the left then right and broke my pole. Then tell the better
half you half got to have a better pole. Of course that old reel was part of
the problem so its got to get replaced too. Her new shoes will have to wait
till next month
