Crankbaits

I always here most fishermen from the south talking about shad as a
primary forage, but here in the north you don't see much shad. So what
color pattern do you think would be best for our waters? We have alot of
bluegill and sunfish.

Bucky, try to find Perch based cranks and stick baits. I always liked
Rappalas. Another good color up North is black and silver or black
and chartreuse. Chrome is good too.

Any color. I'm one who's seen convincing evidence (such as in Dr. Keith
Jones' book and my own fishing) that lures don't have to be imitative to be
effective. They do have to get the fish's attention. I feel very comfortable
with carrying just two colors: something muted, like shad or bluegill, and
something louder, like firetiger. The manufacturers would like me to carry
23 colors of every bait so "I'll be ready for all conditions I might face."
I'm in the shadless north too and shad is one of a number of colors that do
very well.

Although I live in Northern Virginia I consider it northern fishing. I have
lot's of luck with a suspending rapala, I don't know the exact official
color but it green on top and orange on the bottom and has silver sides I
guess it looks like a blue gill and they slay it.
