Picking a particular spot to recommend would be hard, but if you're
looking for "easy" mountain cabin-like getaways, something on or near a ski resort would probably work well. You can ride the lifts for beautiful views, the towns always have good eating, shopping, etc., and if you pick carefully you should be able to find decent fishing relatively close (e.g., Breckenridge has the Blue river tailwater nearby, plus numerous other choices). Lodging should be trivial to find, too. Ken's right, you should watch what you pick in regards to runoff season, but creeks can be surprisingly low in the morning, and stillwaters and tailwaters are always fishable. HTH, Jon. |

I suppose just the opposite could be said for my rec on a ski resort (beautiful or intolerably cold). Jon. |

Possibly, but I've been a few times in June and it has been great. I doubt Flagstaff and the surrounding area would be that hot. I don't really get your point, since *any* place could have bad weather during a short stay. If he just stays home, the same could be said. Heck, it *could* rain at the Penns Clave, not that that would happen. What's a boy to do? ;-) -- TL, Tim ------------------------- http://css.sbcma.com/timj |

Calgary and Banff. Great fishing, great views, shopping, non-US
stores and goods from places we would not normally have access too. Frank Reid |

Some restrictions -- not a whole lotta walking, as SWMBO is pre-spawn. (Spawn due in late July). Would like a place that has the touristy crap within maybe 20-30 min drive. Not too remote, as pre-spawn condition necessitates a certain measure of secure feeling and all that. Thinking resort-type place, but not looking for some super-luxury sort of thing. Also, not completely a fishing trip. I'll likely get a few days of fishing, while doing a few days of touristy stuff. She likes to sit on a porch and read while soaking up the views. Budget: certainly not unrestricted, but also not looking to go "on the cheap." tl;dr: place out west that Michelle and I will enjoy? thanks, Dan Steamboat Springs, CO...Yampa River and others nearby. Also nice downtown area with shops of all varieties. Hotels right on river with rates reasonable during summer. Still has some of Western CO ranch- style feel left. ____________________ http://family-outdoors.com/FISHING_PLACES.htm |

It is the Los Angeles or NYC idea of what "the west" should be -- accepts all kinds of credit cards, has expensive shops, the best views (outside of Jasper) in North America, decent fishing on the Snake (take rocks to throw at the rafters), short trips to interesting places, and air direct from anywhere. Just mind the electric fence that surrounds the place, as it is as much a part of Wyoming (from the locals' point of view) as Gaza is part of Israel. cheers oz, who prefers the Snowys |
