Default Henry's Fork/Lake area...?

I'll be fishing in/around the area starting May 28th for 3 days. I was
hoping for more time, however that's all I could manage.
Any suggestions on flyshops & fishing in the area? I've heard there is a
salmon fly hatch that starts late May on the Henry's Fork?

I will have a drift boat.

Appreciate any ideas/suggestions.

Thanks,
JT

That would very likely be a good time for the Warm River to Ashton dam float
on the lower HFork .... yes, Salmon Flies ... good launch ramp/ take out,
pretty easy float, good fishing from the boat ( assuming good oarsman ) and
lots of good get out and wade spots both.

There are a couple limited fly shops in Ashton ... for shuttle or simple
needs ... both are at the north end of town on the main highway, one on each
side of the highway, one in a home, the other more traditional .... I park
my trailer in the yard behind the home ( Idaho Irresistables ) when I fish
the lower river, nice people.

The float will be anything but lonely, but has that crazy " is everybody
happy?" air that seems to go with the big bugs and can be fun.

The section below Ashton dam, down to Chester backwater is a favorite of
mine ... people mainly float it, I walk it and wade ... if the section above
the dam is blown, below it might not be. Not sure when the uppermost
section nearest the dam opens ( general season ), you may still be limited
to the second bridge and down.

I didn't fish there last season, but did spend that exact time frame on the
Ashton section of the Fork the year before that ... lots of big orange
bugs G

The ice usually comes off Hebgen Lake around mid-May and midge fishing can
be very, very, good in calm weather .... Hebgen is about an hour from
Ashton, just outside West yellowstone ..

Any suggestions on flyshops

Last Chance Idaho has a few flyshops of which Henry's Fork Anglers is a good
one

JT, look into floating Box Canyon ... I've never done so but it looks like
a very good float, looking down from the rim of it's canyon ... the Salmon
Flies do make it that far up the river ... when, I don't know ... but I'd
guess you'll be there near the time ... it's maybe 25 river miles upstream
from Warm River confluence ...

I found this about the Warm River float, just to wet your appetite

Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe that requires you to take your boat
down Hyde Slide. I wouldn't do it.

No, Box Canyon has a good ramp right at the base of the dam that forms
Island Park Res. and the take out is another good ramp next door to the
big lodge right in Last Chance

Right. I was thinking of Cardiac Canyon. It's been awhile since I've
been at Henry's Fork.

Warren Findley and I floated Box Canyon and it was a pretty good float
-- better than the stretch below the Ranch.

We also watched a guide do a face plant trying to take a raft down
Hyde Slide. I have photos of it somewhere.
